Position Details

The Laboratory Assistant is responsible to assist the Lab Technician and Technical Officer to prepare equipment and materials needed for teaching and research laboratory activities, assist with stock taking, records keeping, carry out general/simple apparatus and equipment maintenance, disposal of chemical/scheduled waste, replenish lab consumable and supplies and enforce safety measures to all staff and students working in the laboratories.

**Scope of Responsibilities**:

- Prepare equipment and material needed for teaching and research activities under the direction of supervisor including clearing classroom after each activities or demonstration.
- Assist academic staff and laboratory staff with enforcement of safety measures, stocktaking of equipment, consumable and chemical, records keeping, proper handling of chemical/scheduled waste, and replenish stock and supplies as needed.
- Carry out general maintenance of equipment and materials including arranging for equipment repair and maintenance.

**Selection Criteria**:

- A certificate in Science, Chemical/Petroleum Engineering or related field.
- At least one (1) year of practical experience in a laboratory.
- Self-motivated, able to work independently in some activities and as part of a team.
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines;
- Ability to work at odd hours such as weekends and public holidays to meet the teaching and research demand and to work under pressure.
