**Job overview**:
Due to further expansion and anticipated growth in our Boarding House, we are looking for additional staff to join our Boarding team.

**JOB SUMMARY**

House parents are responsible for the supervision and guidance of the Boarders in their care at Nexus Boarding, including supervision of their living accommodation. House parents contribute to the personal, social, emotional, academic, physical development and general well-being of Boarders.

**JOB DUTIES**

**GENERAL**

1. Effectively manages the Boarding House ensuring:

- cooperation between Boarders and staff.
- a clean, tidy and respectable environment is maintained.
- rules, policies and procedures are adhered to.

2. Maintains own standard of dress in accordance with Nexus Boarding House Policy.

3. Effectively attends to administration tasks.

4. Works positively with a team, including effective communication, maintaining professionalism and demonstrating cooperation in attaining team goals.

5. Models appropriate behavior, attitude and values.

6. Displays a positive approach to the Boarding ethos.

7. Displays respect and tolerance for the diverse Nexus Boarding community.

8. Maintains a position of trust with Boarders.

9. Works cooperatively with other staff to ensure the well-being of our Boarders.

**BOARDER BEHAVIOUR MANAGEMENT**

1. Maintains a positive personal relationship with Boarders.

2. Develops and communicates fair and appropriate boundaries for Boarders.

3. Develops and implements logical and effective consequences for poor behavior when appropriate.

4. Recognizes and manages appropriate standards with ongoing behavior issues.

5. Maintains records and documentation regarding Boarder behavior.

**BOARDERS’ PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT**

1. Monitors and encourages the personal and social development of individual Boarders.

2. Encourages a positive approach to health habits and social values.

3. Encourages and develops responsibility and leadership.

**EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT**

1. Encourages and maintains a positive environment for learning.

2. Participates in Prep reading activities and additional classes as required.

3. Monitors and reports on the academic progress of Boarders.

4. Follows up on concerns about individual Boarder’s academic performance and documents as appropriate.

5. Assists Boarders to develop their individual academic needs and vocational plans.

**COMMUNICATION AND LIAISON**

1. Keeps parents informed and seeks to involve them where possible.

2. Liaises closely with senior staff regarding Boarder concerns.

3. Maintains a practice of prompt and positive communication with teachers regarding concerns of Boarders.

4. Communicates effectively and respectfully with Boarders.

**NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE**: (Selection Criteria)
- A qualification in teaching or nursing.
- Excellent English language skills and ability to communicate confidently with Boarders, parents, senior staff and stakeholders.
- Experience working with young people, or appropriate training and commitment to work with young people. (essential)
- Ability to lead and supervise the care of young people in a residential setting contributing to their social, emotional, educational and physical development.
- Commitment to working cooperatively with parents in the care and well-being of the Boarders.
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
- A high standard of written skills.
- Ability to problem solve, use initiative and be flexible.
- Senior First Aid
