Food Technologist

**POSITION OVERVIEW**

The Food Technologist is responsible for conducting experiments and product trials to enhance existing food products. This role ensures all products comply with relevant food safety and quality standards. The Food Technologist also maintains accurate records and documentation of testing processes and results.

**ABOUT OUR COMPANY**

Established in 1987 and acquired by Johnsonville in 2020, we offers over 100 halal products and serves foodservice clients across Southeast Asia.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- **Conduct and monitor microbiological testing** on raw materials, finished products, and environmental samples (water, air, equipment, workers) based on SOPs and schedules.
- **Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment** according to the verification program and ensure good laboratory practices are followed.
- **Manage laboratory inventory** including chemicals, glassware, consumables, PPE, and hygiene supplies, and handle purchasing requests.
- **Maintain accurate records and submit daily test reports**, including reviewing results and reporting non-conformances.
- **Coordinate with external labs** for sample verification, proficiency testing (PT), and issuance of Certificates of Analysis (COA).
- **Conduct shelf-life studies and sensory evaluations** to support product quality and food safety.
- **Assist in budget management** for laboratory and hygiene operations as per departmental goals.
- **Support compliance with local and international food safety standards** and assist in regulatory and audit preparations.
- **Provide training and supervision** for new staff and interns on job tasks and lab practices.
- **Prepare and present reports** for Food Safety Meetings and perform additional tasks like mock recalls, method reviews, and trend analysis.

**REQUIREMENTS/EXPERIENCES**
- Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, Food Technology/Science, Biotechnology or other related field
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a food microbiology lab or meat industry preferred
- Experience in ISO 17025 accredited labs is an advantage.
- Preferrable registered food analyst under Majlis Juruanalisis Makanan Malaysia (MJMM).
