Barista

Key responsibilities
- **Beverage preparation**: Preparing and serving a variety of hot and cold coffee and tea beverages, which includes grinding beans, operating espresso machines, and steaming and pouring milk.
- **Customer service**: Taking orders, handling cash and credit card transactions, and ensuring customers have a positive and welcoming experience.
- **Workspace maintenance**: Keeping the work area, equipment, and utensils clean and sanitary. They are also responsible for restocking supplies.
- **Menu knowledge**: Understanding the menu, explaining items to customers, and promoting special or seasonal beverages.
- **Operational support**: Assisting with opening or closing procedures, managing rush hours, and sometimes training new employees.

Skills and qualifications
- **Customer service**: A friendly, outgoing, and welcoming demeanor is crucial for customer interaction.
- **Technical skills**: Ability to operate coffee-making equipment and a willingness to learn different preparation methods.
- **Adaptability**: Being able to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to dynamic situations.
- **Attention to detail**: Ensuring drinks are made to specification and the workspace is kept clean.
- **Experience**: Previous experience in food service is beneficial but not always required, as many employers provide on-the-job training.
- **Food safety**: A Food Handling Certificate may be required in some locations, especially if food is served.
