Lab Technician

1) Inspect the condition of explants to make sure they are clean. 2) Record the number of explants (clean, contaminated, dead, etc) produced by the production team members. 3) Assist the lab supervisor to fine tune lab operation. 4) Assist the lab supervisor to receive the stock explants from HQ lab (stock in) and deliver the plantlets to nursery (stock out). 5) Prepare the weekly/monthly report of quality control.
TSG Green is the first company to set up a FutureTrees or RT-Paulownia lab in Sarawak, focusing on the cultivation of tissue cultures to produce RT-Paulownia clones. These species of trees can achieve the highest carbon capture in the world, the traits of which were published in a 2019 Bloomberg report. These clones, once planted, will go on to become RT-Paulownia trees. RT-Paulownia is one of the fastest growing trees in the world, and produces high quality timber with fine grain. It can grow up to 50 feet tall, and is harvested as early as 3 years after planting. The remaining tree stump is able to regenerate, up to 6 cycles. The RT-Paulownia is not an invasive species but through a thorough process taken in the lab, a sterile variant is cultivated which does not produce flowers or seeds and hence will not cause any adverse impact on Sarawak’s existing forestry systems. This represents a feasible approach towards making a positive impact on climate change attributed to its recognition as a carbon sink, and is able to efficiently and effectively absorb greenhouse gases. On average, RT-Paulownia trees planted in one acre of land can absorb 103 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide, from the atmosphere, per annum. This is 10 times more than what most tree species can absorb, ranging from 1.1 to 9.5 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide, per annum.
