Pharmacist Assistant/ Sales Assistant

A Pharmacy Sales Assistant typically supports the day-to-day operations of a pharmacy by helping customers, assisting with stock management, and ensuring the smooth running of the sales floor.

Job Scope Includes:
1. **Customer Service**:

- Greet and assist customers in finding the right products, whether it's medication, personal care items, or over-the-counter products.
- Provide basic product information and explain the uses of products (under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist if needed).
- Help with queries about drug interactions, dosage, and side effects—within the scope of training and company policies.
- Provide assistance in selecting non-prescription medications or health products.

2. **Sales and Product Promotion**:

- Promote pharmacy products, offers, and health-related services to customers.
- Encourage upselling and cross-selling of items, such as vitamins, health supplements, and personal care items.
- Handle transactions and process sales using the point-of-sale (POS) system.
- Maintain an attractive display of products to encourage sales.

3. **Inventory Management**:

- Assist with inventory tracking, including stock taking and reordering supplies.
- Ensure shelves are stocked with required items and organize products for easy access.
- Check expiration dates of products and ensure proper stock rotation (first in, first out—FIFO method).
- Assist in receiving and unpacking deliveries.

4. **Medication and Prescription Assistance**:

- Assist customers with prescription drop-off and pick-up procedures.
- Ensure that prescriptions are processed efficiently by communicating with the pharmacy staff.
- Maintain privacy and confidentiality when handling patient information.
- Ensure medications are dispensed in accordance with regulations.

5. **Pharmacy Operation Support**:

- Keep the pharmacy clean, organized, and sanitized.
- Assist in maintaining a safe and comfortable shopping environment for customers.
- Help the pharmacist with administrative tasks like labeling, sorting, or filling prescriptions if needed.

6. **Compliance & Safety**:

- Ensure adherence to pharmacy regulations and policies, including health and safety procedures.
- Assist in monitoring the expiration of pharmacy stock and manage returns where necessary.
- Help maintain records of sales, inventories, and other essential paperwork.

7. **Cashiering**:

- Process cash, credit, and debit transactions accurately.
- Provide customers with receipts and handle returns or exchanges in line with store policy.

8. **Health and Safety Responsibilities**:

- Ensure the store complies with health and safety regulations (sanitizing, ensuring safe storage of hazardous materials, etc.).
- Help customers adhere to safety protocols (e.g., wearing masks, using hand sanitizers in some environments).

Skills and Qualifications:

- **Customer service skills**: Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with customers.
- **Attention to detail**: Being meticulous, especially when dealing with medication or health-related products.
- **Organizational skills**: Ability to manage inventory and maintain a neat and organized sales floor.
- **Basic knowledge of pharmacy products and medications** (or willingness to learn): Familiarity with common over-the-counter drugs and their uses.
- **Technical skills**: Experience with POS systems and cash registers.
- **Teamwork**: Ability to work in a team environment with other sales assistants and pharmacists.

Work Environment:

- Typically in a retail setting, but could also be in a hospital, clinic, or online pharmacy.
- May involve standing for long periods, handling products, and occasionally lifting stock.
