**Job Purpose**

In addition to fulfilling all the technical aspects of the services provided by the Pharmacy Department, the Pharmacy Assistant is involved in carrying out continuing education program for the other junior staff.

The Pharmacy Assistant is also required to be available for emergency staff coverage to meet the 24 hours service requirements of the hospital.

**Duties and Responsibilities**

**A.** **Dispensing**
- Ensure the smooth running of the department.
- Assist the pharmacist in guiding and checking trainee dispensing assistants, locum dispensing staff, in drug dosage and prescription reading.
- To guide and ensure that junior staff and locums observe hospital and pharmacy’s policies and procedures.

**B. Ward Supply**
- Supply or check the supplies by trainees and locum staff.
- Supervise trainees in preparation of skin clinic prescriptions and other extemporaneous preparations.
- Carry out ward checks.

**C. Stores**
- Assist the Pharmacist in ensuring that stocks are available for use and to monitor short expiry and slow moving items.
- Guide new dispensing staff in correct observance of store protocol and other guidelines in issue of drugs.
- Assist in the department stock takes.

**D. Production/ Manufacturing/ Repacking**
- Prepare aseptic preparations.
- Assist pharmacist in providing total parenteral preparations and cytotoxic drug reconstitution services (if required by the hospital).
- Supervise departmental aides and overseer their prepacking.

**E. General**
- Assist the pharmacist in collecting data for implementing all upgrading exercises required by management.
- Ensure compliance by trainees, junior staff and other pharmacy staff in fulfilling their job requirements.
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the pharmacist.

**Qualifications**

Certificate in Pharmacy or Diploma in Pharmacy.

**Salary**: RM2,000.00 - RM3,000.00 per month

Schedule:

- Day shift
- Evening shift
- Night shift

**Education**:

- Diploma/Advanced Diploma (preferred)

**Experience**:

- Pharmacist: 2 years (preferred)
