Plant Manager

1. Job Purpose

The Plant Manager is responsible for the overall management, planning, and coordination of all plant operations to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant production activities. This role ensures adherence to Malaysian regulatory requirements, including OSHA 1994, Factories and Machinery Act, DOSH guidelines, and internal SOPs. The Plant Manager oversees production output, manpower deployment, safety compliance, quality standards, cost control, and continuous improvement across the facility.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Plant Operations Management

• Oversee daily production activities to ensure optimal output and efficiency.
• Ensure all operations comply with Malaysian statutory requirements (OSHA 1994, FMA, DOSH regulations).
• Monitor and control production processes, machine performance, and plant KPIs.
• Implement operational strategies to meet production plans, delivery deadlines, and quality expectations.
• Ensure all equipment is operated safely and maintained according to SOPs and manufacturer requirements.

B. Safety, Health & Environment (SHE)

• Enforce compliance with workplace safety policies and procedures.
• Ensure plant adherence to DOSH requirements, safety audits, risk assessments, and chemical handling standards.
• Lead safety toolbox meetings, near-miss reporting, and incident investigations.
• Work closely with the Safety Officer and HR to maintain a safe working environment.

C. Quality Control & Compliance

• Ensure production meets required quality standards (ISO requirements, internal QMS, customer specifications).
• Work with QA/QC team to address quality issues, non-conformities, and corrective actions.
• Maintain proper records for inspections, audits, and certifications.

D. People Management

• Lead, coach, motivate, and supervise production staff and line leaders.
• Conduct performance reviews, address disciplinary issues, and monitor attendance in line with HR policies.
• Identify staff training needs and coordinate with HR for competency development.

E. Maintenance & Technical Support

• Coordinate with Maintenance Department to ensure preventive and predictive maintenance programs are executed.
• Reduce breakdowns, equipment failures, and downtime.
• Monitor maintenance cost and ensure spare part planning.

F. Cost Control & Resource Planning

• Manage production budgets, utility usage, and cost optimisation initiatives.
• Ensure efficient use of materials, manpower, and equipment.
• Analyse production reports and propose cost-reduction strategies.

G. Reporting & Documentation

• Prepare daily/weekly/monthly production reports for management review.
• Maintain all operational records, logs, compliance documentation, and statutory records.
• Support the development, review, and implementation of SOPs and risk assessments.

3. Required Competencies

4. Qualifications & Experience

• Degree or Diploma in Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, or related field.
• Minimum 5–8 years of experience in plant or production management (manufacturing environment).
• Experience in ISO, GMP, HACCP, or similar standards is an added advantage.
• Strong understanding of Malaysia's regulatory and compliance requirements (OSHA, DOSH, FMA).
• Experience in managing a large workforce and multi-shift operations.

5. Language Requirements

• Bahasa Malaysia (required)
• English (required)
• Ability to read and interpret technical documents, safety guidelines, and regulatory requirements.

6. Physical & Working Conditions

• Work is performed in a plant/factory environment with moderate noise levels.
• Required to walk, stand, and monitor plant operations regularly.
• Must comply with PPE requirements (safety shoes, helmet, goggles, etc.).
• Occasional overtime or weekend support may be required based on operational needs.

7. Supervisory Responsibilities

• Direct supervision of line leaders, production supervisors, and plant operators.
• Responsible for manpower planning, shift arrangements, job rotations, and performance evaluation.

8. Additional Requirements

• High integrity, commitment, and strong ownership of plant KPIs.
• Able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Ability to travel to other company sites when required.
