  • Responsibilities:

System Administration:
- Install, configure, and maintain IBM PureApplication System environments (W1500, W1700, or similar models).
- Administer compute nodes, management nodes, IP groups, and cloud groups within the PureApplication environment.
- Perform regular system health checks, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
- Manage and resolve problems identified through system alerts or monitoring software.
- Implement and manage system security, including user access management and network configurations.
- Perform system backups and disaster recovery planning and execution.
- Apply system patches and upgrades to ensure system stability and security.
- Application Deployment & Management:
- Deploy, manage, and monitor virtual application instances and virtual system instances using PureApplication's pattern-based deployment.
- Create, modify, and export virtual application templates and images.
- Configure and manage middleware components like IBM WebSphere Application Server, IBM Db2, and other integrated software.
- Automate application deployments and lifecycle management using "Patterns of Expertise" and scripting (e.g., Python, Bash).
- Integrate applications with external systems and services.
- Troubleshoot application-related issues within the PureApplication environment.
- Performance and Optimization:
- Monitor application and system performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimization strategies.
- Analyze logs and performance data to proactively address potential issues.
- Ensure efficient resource allocation and utilization within the cloud environment.
- Collaboration and Documentation:
- Collaborate with development teams, architects, and other IT teams to understand application requirements and ensure smooth deployments.
- Provide technical support (L2/L3) and guidance to the clients.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive system documentation, operational procedures, and knowledge base articles.
- Participate in on-call rotations as needed for critical system support.

Job Summary:

The IBM PureApps Engineer is responsible for the design, deployment, configuration, administration, and support of applications and middleware on IBM PureApplication System platforms. This role involves leveraging PureApplication's "Patterns of Expertise" to automate deployments, manage cloud resources, and ensure the optimal performance and availability of critical business applications.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience with IBM PureApplication System (or similar "Expert Integrated Systems" / cloud appliances).
  • Proficiency in Linux/Unix operating systems.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, IBM PowerVM).
  • Knowledge of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs).
  • Familiarity with storage concepts (SAN, NAS, DAS, RAID).
  • Scripting skills (e.g., Python, Bash, Jython) for automation and system management.
  • Experience with middleware administration (e.g., IBM WebSphere Application Server, IBM Db2, Apache, Tomcat).
  • Understanding of high availability and disaster recovery concepts.
  • Problem determination and troubleshooting skills.
