Tooling Test Technician / Engineer – Job Scope
Job Purpose:

To support the design, development, testing, validation, and maintenance of tooling systems (jigs, fixtures, dies, molds, etc.) used in manufacturing and testing environments. The Technician focuses on hands-on testing and maintenance, while the Engineer leads design analysis, tooling trials, and project coordination.


Common Responsibilities (Both Technician & Engineer):
  • Conduct testing, validation, and troubleshooting of tooling systems.
  • Assist in tooling set-up and support production trials or pilot runs.
  • Ensure tools and fixtures meet quality and performance specifications.
  • Maintain accurate testing records, reports, and tool history documentation.
  • Work closely with production, QA, and engineering teams to resolve tooling issues.
  • Follow safety procedures and ensure tools comply with regulatory standards.

Tooling Test Technician – Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform hands-on inspection, assembly, testing, and maintenance of tools.
  • Use measuring tools and equipment (calipers, micrometers, gauges, CMM, etc.).
  • Support tool changeovers, adjustments, and minor repairs on the shop floor.
  • Identify and report issues with tool wear, damage, or misalignment.
  • Assist engineers during tool trials, validation runs, and failure investigations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the tooling test area.
  • Support preventive maintenance and calibration schedules.

Requirements:

  • Technical certificate or diploma in Mechanical/Tooling/Manufacturing.
  • 1–3 years of experience in a similar hands-on tooling or mechanical role.
  • Basic understanding of tool design and mechanical drawings.
  • Skilled in using precision measuring equipment.

Tooling Test Engineer – Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, plan, and execute tooling test procedures and validation protocols.
  • Analyze test data and tool performance, and implement improvements.
  • Collaborate with design and manufacturing teams for tool development.
  • Drive tooling improvement projects for quality, cycle time, or cost reduction.
  • Coordinate with vendors/suppliers for tooling fabrication or repair.
  • Create technical documentation: tool drawings, test reports, control plans, etc.
  • Lead root cause analysis for tooling failures and implement corrective actions.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Tooling Engineering.
  • 2–5+ years of experience in tooling design, testing, or validation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.) and MS Office.
  • Familiarity with GD&T, FMEA, and engineering change processes.
