About Enggang

Enggang Management Services Sdn Bhd (EMS) supports conservation at the Al-Sultan Abdullah Royal Tiger Reserve (ASARTR) by linking research, field operations, and sustainable funding to measurable outcomes. We work with government agencies, NGOs, universities, and local communities across Pahang.

About the Role

Design, maintain, and secure the park-wide data ecosystem so field teams, analysts, and managers can trust and use data quickly. You'll own integrity, queriability, security, and interoperability across range bases and HQ

What You'll Be Doing

  • Design, evolve, and steward the Fusion Database / EMS Integrated Data System (IDS) to meet core park needs and new requirements.
  • Ensure interoperability between range bases and HQ with clear user roles, permissions, and audited access.
  • Build/modify schemas, views, indices to optimise query performance and analyst workflows.
  • Develop and maintain ETL pipelines (e.g., SMART exports, sensor feeds, survey/nursery/asset trackers).
  • Set and enforce QA/QC rules; run periodic validation/deduplication; work with Data Officers to reduce errors.
  • Provide technical support & debugging for the database/services and field data-collection apps (forms/mobile).
  • Maintain runbooks for common errors, recovery steps, and restoration procedures.
  • Produce maps, graphs, and dashboards to support strategic planning, reviews, and operations.
  • Support analysts/researchers with ad-hoc queries and well-packaged datasets (with metadata/caveats).
  • Implement cybersecurity controls: access control, encryption (at rest/in transit), backups, and recovery tests.
  • Ensure compliance with Malaysian data protection laws and EMS safeguarding/privacy policies; maintain access logs and data-sharing registers.
  • Keep technical documentation current (ERDs, data dictionaries, SOPs) and publish release notes for changes.
  • Train Data Officers/analysts on data-entry standards, query templates, dashboards, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Agree and manage SLAs for uptime, response, and maintenance windows; communicate scheduled downtime.
  • Coordinate with DSS/Operations on priorities; align data products and change requests with field/manager needs.
  • Monitor system health and data freshness; resolve failed jobs promptly and report status.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's in Computer Science / IT / Environmental/Conservation Science (or related).
  • 2+ years in database administration/data management.
  • RDBMS skills (PostgreSQL/MySQL): schema design, indexing, backups, user/role mgmt.
  • GIS handling & map production (QGIS/ArcGIS).
  • Basic scripting (SQL, Python or R) for automation/wrangling.
  • Strong organisation, documentation, and stakeholder comms; BM required (workable English preferred).
  • Able to be based in Jerantut with periodic remote fieldwork.

Nice to Have

  • PostgreSQL + PostGIS, pgAdmin/DBeaver; performance tuning/materialised views.
  • ETL/orchestration (cron/Airflow), API integrations; SMART data structures; ODK/KOBO/SMART Mobile.
  • Cybersecurity practices (least-privilege, audit logs); dashboarding (Metabase/Superset).

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary, medical benefits, annual leave & public holidays.
  • Base: Jerantut, Pahang (ASARTR Operations Office).
  • Rotational stationing: Mat Daling / Pasir Raja (as scheduled).
  • Provided during rotations: accommodation, meals, and travel allowance (Jerantut field base).
  • Hybrid flexibility when at HQ; training & development; mission-driven colleagues.
