Oracle RAC SME (Subject Matter Expert)

Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Oracle RAC SME to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) technologies and will be responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting high-availability and high-performance Oracle database environments. You will work closely with other database administrators, architects, and development teams to ensure optimal performance, scalability, and reliability of Oracle RAC systems. You will also be responsible for ensuring the proper configuration and timely execution of RMAN backups for Oracle RAC databases.
Key Responsibilities:
- RAC Architecture and Design: Architect and design Oracle RAC solutions for mission-critical applications, ensuring high availability, scalability, and fault tolerance.
- Installation & Configuration: Install, configure, and maintain Oracle RAC environments, including clusterware, database software, and related components.
- Performance Tuning: Monitor, analyze, and optimize the performance of Oracle RAC clusters to ensure optimal resource utilization and performance.
- High Availability & Disaster Recovery: Implement and support high-availability solutions, including Data Guard, Oracle Flashback, and backups to ensure minimal downtime and data loss.
- Troubleshooting & Support: Provide expert-level troubleshooting and resolution of Oracle RAC-related issues, including system outages, slow performance, and configuration problems.
- RMAN Backup Configuration: Ensure that RMAN (Recovery Manager) backups are configured correctly, running without errors, and completing successfully on time for all Oracle RAC databases.
o Perform regular checks to ensure RMAN backups are executed as scheduled.
o Troubleshoot and resolve any backup failures promptly.
o Work with the team to ensure that backup retention policies, archiving, and recovery plans are properly followed.
- Patch Management: Plan and execute patching of Oracle RAC systems to keep environments current with security patches, bug fixes, and new features.
- Automation: Develop and maintain scripts for database management, monitoring, and automation of routine tasks (using tools like Ansible, Shell Scripting, or other automation tools).
- Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation for RAC configurations, procedures, best practices, and troubleshooting steps.
- Collaboration: Work with development, operations, and infrastructure teams to provide support for Oracle RAC installations, migrations, and upgrades.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Expert-Level Oracle RAC Knowledge: Extensive experience in Oracle RAC architecture, installation, configuration, tuning, and maintenance.
- Oracle Database Administration: Strong background in Oracle Database administration, including backup and recovery, security, and performance tuning.
- Oracle Clusterware: Expertise in Oracle Clusterware, Grid Infrastructure, and Oracle ASM (Automatic Storage Management).
- Troubleshooting Skills: Advanced troubleshooting skills related to RAC environments, including interconnect issues, database issues, and cluster problems.
- RMAN (Recovery Manager): Proven experience in configuring, managing, and troubleshooting RMAN backups for Oracle RAC environments. Ensure that backups are executed successfully and within the defined timeframes.
- High Availability Solutions: Proficiency in implementing and managing Oracle Data Guard, Flashback, RMAN, and other HA solutions.
- Scripting & Automation: Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Shell, Perl, Python) for database automation and management.
- Patch Management: Experience with patching Oracle RAC clusters and applying quarterly CPU patches and critical updates.
- Performance Tuning: Expertise in Oracle database performance tuning, including diagnosing and resolving bottlenecks in RAC environments.
- Disaster Recovery: Experience designing and implementing disaster recovery solutions for Oracle RAC.
Education & Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.
- Oracle Database certifications (e.g., Oracle Certified Expert, Oracle Certified Master) are highly desirable.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with Oracle Cloud or hybrid cloud implementations.
- Familiarity with other database technologies (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server) and integrations with Oracle RAC.
- Knowledge of virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Oracle VM) and cloud infrastructure.
Soft Skills:
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Working Conditions:
- On-call availability for urgent support needs.
- Occasional weekend or off-hours work for maintenance and upgrades.
