Islamic Legal Counsel

How you succeed
To succeed in this role, you'll need to demonstrate a deep understanding of the Bank's business and operations, as well as a strong understanding of Shariah principles, Islamic banking and investment products and regulatory frameworks. You'll work closely and collaborate with stakeholders across the Bank to provide timely, practical and effective legal advice and to ensure that the Bank's interest are protected. Your ability to build strong relationship with stakeholders and communicate complex legal issues in a clear and concise manner and remaining poised to deliver under pressure will be essential in driving business success.

What you do
- Advise on legal matters related to OCBC Group's Islamic banking and financing businesses.

- Draft, review, and negotiate Islamic banking agreements, financing documentation and investment products documentation in accordance with Shariah and Malaysian law.

- Collaborate with business and support units  to ensure product structures and operations comply with Islamic principles.

- Monitor and interpret regulatory developments and ensure OCBC Group's Islamic banking and financing practices remain compliant.

- Manage litigation and dispute resolution involving Islamic banking and financing matters.

- Provide training and guidance to internal teams on Islamic legal and regulatory issues.

- Liaise with regulators, external counsel and internal stakeholders for effective resolution of Islamic legal matters.

-Undertake such tasks as may be assigned by Head of Legal from time to time.

Who you are

- LL.B or equivalent legal qualification; candidates with a Master's in Islamic Finance or Shariah Law is an added advantage.

- Minimum 8 years of legal experience, with at least 5 years in Islamic banking or finance in either financial institutions or legal practise.

- Strong understanding of Shariah principles, Islamic banking and investment products and regulatory frameworks.

- Excellent drafting, negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders and external counsels
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities
- Fluency in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
