1. Job Summary:

These positions play essential roles in the rehabilitation team. They are responsible for assessing, planning, and implementing individualized therapy programs to help patients restore, maintain, or improve physical function, mobility, and independence in daily living and work activities.

Both therapists collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and other allied health professionals to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care that enhances recovery and quality of life.

2. Key Responsibilities:

A. Physiotherapist

• Assess, diagnose, and treat patients with physical impairments, disabilities, or pain resulting from injury, illness, or surgery.
• Develop and implement evidence-based physiotherapy treatment plans to improve movement, strength, balance, and functional mobility.
• Use manual therapy, electrotherapy, exercise prescription, and other therapeutic modalities as appropriate.
• Educate patients and caregivers on exercise programs, posture, and lifestyle modifications to support recovery and prevent recurrence.
• Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to plan discharge and continuing care.
• Maintain accurate documentation and progress notes according to hospital standards.
• Participate in quality improvement, clinical audits, and continuing professional education.

B. Occupational Therapist

• Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify patients' functional limitations in self-care, productivity, and leisure activities.
• Plan and deliver individualized occupational therapy programs to help patients regain independence and improve quality of life.
• Provide training in activities of daily living (ADLs) and recommend adaptive equipment or home modifications where necessary.
• Educate patients and families on coping strategies, assistive device use, and environmental adaptations.
• Collaborate with other healthcare professionals in planning and implementing holistic rehabilitation care.
• Document patient progress, treatment outcomes, and recommendations clearly and accurately.
• Participate in patient education, community awareness programs, and professional development activities.

C. Physiotherapy Assistant

• Assist Physiotherapists in delivering treatment programs under supervision.
• Prepare and maintain therapy equipment and treatment areas in a safe, clean, and ready-to-use condition.
• Support patients during therapy sessions, including guiding exercises and ensuring comfort and safety.
• Monitor and report patients' responses to therapy sessions to the supervising Physiotherapist.
• Assist in the fabrication, fitting, and maintenance of mobility aids or supportive devices as directed.
• Record basic treatment information and assist in updating patient progress notes.
• Educate patients and caregivers on basic home exercise or mobility routines as guided by the therapist.
• Maintain infection control, safety, and confidentiality standards in all clinical activities.
• Perform administrative and clerical tasks as required within the rehabilitation unit.

3. Job Requirements:

Education & Qualification:

• Physiotherapist: Bachelor's Degree in Physiotherapy from a recognized institution.
• Occupational Therapist: Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy from a recognized institution.
• Physiotherapy Assistant: Diploma in Physiotherapy from a recognized institution
• Registered with the Malaysian Allied Health Professions Council or relevant professional body.

Experience:

• Minimum 1–2 years of clinical experience in a hospital or rehabilitation setting.
