Production Material Controller

Material Planning & Scheduling:

  • Develop and maintain a master production schedule (MPS) based on purchase orders.
  • Create detailed material requirements plans (MRP) to determine the precise quantities of leather, thread, foam, backing materials, zippers, and other components needed.
  • Coordinate with the cutting, sewing, and finishing departments to release daily/weekly production schedules.
  • Monitor production progress and adjust schedules in real-time to accommodate changes, such as rush orders or machine downtime.
  • Coordinate and work closely with production, store inventory and procurement department.
  • Prepare materials requirement plans based on production order and bill of materials.
  • Determine materials re-order level, safety stock and purchase lead time.

Inventory Management:

  • Maintain optimal stock levels for all raw materials.
  • Coordinate with the Quality Control team to inspect incoming leather for defects (e.g., scars, brand marks, grain inconsistency) and adjust inventory records accordingly.
  • Implement and manage a First-In, First-Out (FIFO) system for perishable materials.
  • Conduct regular cycle counts and lead annual physical inventory audits.
  • Track inventory levels and avoid overstock or shortages.

Production Support & Communication:

  • Act as the primary link between the procurement, and production teams.
  • Provide the production floor with clear and timely information on material availability and potential shortages.

  • Work closely with HQ in China on the procurement as some materials are imported from China and some are locally made.

  • Investigate and resolve any material-related issues that arise on the production line.

Data Analysis & Reporting:

  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as Material Usage Variance, On-Time Delivery to Production, and Inventory Turnover.
  • Analyse historical data and trends to improve forecasting accuracy.
  • Prepare regular reports on inventory status, production progress, and potential risks.
  • Manage cost reduction and strategic sourcing activities.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies.
