Job Summary:

The Restaurant Steward is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards in all kitchen areas, dishwashing stations, storage rooms, and back-of-house areas. The steward supports kitchen operations by ensuring that all kitchen tools, utensils, and equipment are clean and available for use.

Key Responsibilities:

Cleaning & Sanitation

  • Wash and sanitize dishes, pots, pans, utensils, and kitchen equipment.

  • Clean and disinfect kitchen floors, walls, counters, and storage areas.

  • Ensure all cleaning materials are used safely and properly.

  • Dispose of waste according to restaurant hygiene standards.

  • Follow HACCP and food safety guidelines at all times.

Operational Support

  • Assist chefs and cooks by providing clean utensils and equipment promptly.

  • Help in receiving, organizing, and storing deliveries of food and supplies.

  • Report any equipment damage or maintenance issues immediately.

  • Refill soap, sanitizer, and cleaning supplies as needed.

Inventory & Organization

  • Maintain proper organization of dishwashing and storage areas.

  • Ensure all kitchen tools are returned to their designated places.

  • Track stock levels of cleaning materials and notify supervisor when supplies are low.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

  • Previous experience in a restaurant, hotel, or catering kitchen is an advantage.

  • Knowledge of kitchen hygiene and sanitation standards.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Physically fit — able to lift heavy items and stand for long hours.

  • Good teamwork and communication skills.
