Job Summary:
The Restaurant Steward is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards in all kitchen areas, dishwashing stations, storage rooms, and back-of-house areas. The steward supports kitchen operations by ensuring that all kitchen tools, utensils, and equipment are clean and available for use.
Key Responsibilities:
Cleaning & Sanitation
Wash and sanitize dishes, pots, pans, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
Clean and disinfect kitchen floors, walls, counters, and storage areas.
Ensure all cleaning materials are used safely and properly.
Dispose of waste according to restaurant hygiene standards.
Follow HACCP and food safety guidelines at all times.
Operational Support
Assist chefs and cooks by providing clean utensils and equipment promptly.
Help in receiving, organizing, and storing deliveries of food and supplies.
Report any equipment damage or maintenance issues immediately.
Refill soap, sanitizer, and cleaning supplies as needed.
Inventory & Organization
Maintain proper organization of dishwashing and storage areas.
Ensure all kitchen tools are returned to their designated places.
Track stock levels of cleaning materials and notify supervisor when supplies are low.
Qualifications & Skills:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Previous experience in a restaurant, hotel, or catering kitchen is an advantage.
Knowledge of kitchen hygiene and sanitation standards.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Physically fit — able to lift heavy items and stand for long hours.
Good teamwork and communication skills.
