Senior Python Developer

We are looking for a Senior Python Developer to join our team in Kuala Lumpur (Plaza Mont Kiara), supporting Product and Engineering team in designing, building, and scaling Squirro's AI-driven search and insights platform.

What You'll Do

As a Senior Python Developer, you will design, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems and core platform components, contributing to high-performance, production-grade AI solutions.

Key responsibilities include:

Backend & Platform Development

• Design, develop, and optimise core components of the Squirro platform with a focus on scalability, reliability, and performance.
• Develop and maintain high-quality, and efficient Python code for backend services.

System Architecture & Quality

• Apply best practices in software design, testing, and deployment, and contribute to backend architecture improvements.
• Identify, troubleshoot and resolve performance issues in production systems.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to define and deliver new features.
• Actively participate in technical discussions, code reviews, and design sessions to drive continuous improvement.

AI & Data Processing

• Leverage machine learning techniques and data-driven approaches to enhance enterprise search and insight generation.

What You Bring

As this region continues to grow, we're looking for a hands-on
Senior Python Developer
who is comfortable operating at both strategic and tactical levels. You will support Product and Engineering team in delivering scalable, reliable, and innovative platform capabilities.

• 3 – 5 years of experience in Python development and backend software engineering.
• Solid understanding of RESTful services and extensive knowledge of UNIX/Linux environments.
• Experience with testing frameworks and test-driven development practices.
• Industry experience in AI, Machine Learning or data-driven platforms is preferred.
• Excellent communication skills, with fluency in English; additional languages are a plus.
• Technical aptitude or interest in AI, LLMs, Knowledge Graphs, Search Analytics/Data Science, Generative AI or data-intensive systems.
• Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical discipline is a plus.

Tools You'll Use

You'll work with a modern toolset to ensure efficient planning, collaboration, and execution across teams and projects. Key tools include:

• Core Software – Python
• Backend & APIs – RESTful APIs, UNIX/Linux environments
• Search & Indexing – Elasticsearch, Lucene
• Cloud & Infrastructure – Ansible / Terraform

Experience with these tools is preferred but not mandatory — we're looking for someone who is tech-savvy and quick to learn.
