The Fuel Cell Institute, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) as a Higher Institution Center of Excellence, under the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia, invites high-performing Malaysian graduates to apply for Master's by Research and PhD positions in a strategic hydrogen and fuel cell research program supporting Malaysia's green energy transition.

This project focuses on advanced catalyst ink engineering for hydrogen technology, targeting critical challenges in microstructure collapse and microflooding for practical applications.

The work is designed to generate high-competent graduates while training industry-relevant hydrogen talent, preparing them to enter the green job workforce.

Research Scope:

  • Rational design of catalyst ink formulations
  • Control of dispersion and mixing processes
  • Study of ink drying behaviour and microstructure evolution
  • Correlation between ink physics, pore structure, and fuel cell performance

Level & Support

  • Master by Research or PhD
  • Monthly allowance: RM 2,000 – RM 2,500 (performance-based)
  • Study at a top Malaysian public university
  • Access to advanced laboratories and expert supervision
  • Opportunities for overseas attachment and specialised training

Eligibility

  • Malaysian citizen
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical & Process Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science, or related fields (CGPA ≥ 3.50), OR Master's degree in relevant areas
  • Highly motivated, disciplined, and team-oriented
  • Advantage: background in materials, electrochemistry, fuel cells, or data/AI tools

Job Types: Full-time, Internship, Fresh graduate, Student job

Contract length: 24 months

Pay: RM2, RM2,500.00 per month
