About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Tax Specialist to join The Company's Finance Division within the insurance industry. The successful candidate will bring strong expertise in direct and indirect taxation across Malaysia and Singapore, with a proven track record in tax compliance, reporting, and planning. This role is responsible for overseeing tax matters across The Company's group entities, driving operational excellence, and ensuring full compliance with tax and regulatory requirements.


Key Responsibilities
Tax Compliance
  • Manage and review tax compliance matters for Malaysia and Singapore entities within The Company, working closely with external tax agents.
  • Ensure timely and accurate computation and submission of direct and indirect taxes to the relevant tax authorities.
Tax Planning
  • Evaluate and execute tax planning initiatives to optimize tax efficiency in line with group-wide strategies and business objectives.
  • Provide tax analysis and advisory support on group initiatives and transactions.
Tax Reporting
  • Review monthly tax provisions, including deferred tax calculations.
  • Ensure all tax disclosures in financial statements comply with MFRS 112 – Income Taxes and other relevant standards.
Accounting & Controls
  • Oversee accounting and reporting activities in compliance with applicable accounting standards, including:

  • Fixed assets, property, and lease accounting

  • Intercompany transactions, reconciliations, and settlements
  • Accruals for management expenses (ME)
Productivity & Process Improvement
  • Identify opportunities to enhance productivity and operational efficiency within the Tax function.
  • Implement process improvements and best practices to streamline workflows and reduce manual intervention.
Audit & Compliance Management
  • Manage internal and external tax audits, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Prepare audit documentation, address audit findings, and implement corrective actions where required.
Team Leadership & Resource Management
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Tax professionals, setting clear performance objectives and supporting continuous development.
  • Manage resources effectively, including budgets and manpower, to support business priorities and project delivery.
Risk & Regulatory Management
  • Take accountability for identifying and managing tax, business, and regulatory compliance risks, implementing appropriate mitigation measures.
  • Stay informed on industry developments, regulatory changes, and emerging risks to proactively safeguard The Company.
  • Escalate potential issues and share best practices in risk management on a timely basis.
Job Requirement
  • Tertiary qualification or full professional qualification in Accounting (e.g. ACCA, CIMA, MICPA, ICAEW).
  • 7–8 years of relevant experience in Tax, Finance, or Accounting.
  • Strong knowledge of Income Tax, Withholding Tax, Sales Tax, and Service Tax legislation.
  • Familiar with guidelines issued by tax authorities (e.g. LHDN).
  • Working knowledge of BEPS Pillar 2 rules.
  • Proficient in Malaysian Financial Reporting Standards (MFRS), including:

  • MFRS 112 – Income Taxes

  • MFRS 9 – Financial Instruments
  • MFRS 17 – Insurance Contracts
  • Familiarity with regulatory guidelines such as BNM and LIAM for the insurance industry.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
