Lead Design Quality Engineer

The Lead Design Quality Engineer will play a pivotal role in ensuring product excellence within the consumer appliance sector. This position focuses on implementing and maintaining quality standards to support innovative engineering and manufacturing processes.

Description

Strategy & Development

• Develop and implement quality strategies, policies, and procedures to enhance operational performance.
• Support new business initiatives by assessing their impact on supplier quality and communicating findings effectively.

Operational & Task Management

• Lead the APQP process for new product development, providing data-driven guidance and driving continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with Engineering and Testing teams to define and build process capabilities that meet product requirements.
• Oversee product launches to ensure designs and documentation meet quality and customer satisfaction standards.
• Educate cross-functional teams on quality roles and responsibilities, and manage root cause analysis and corrective actions for field issues.
• Champion the use of quality tools such as DFMEA, APQP, risk analysis, and root cause methodologies.
• Monitor product quality risks and report commercial impacts to leadership.
• Stay informed on industry changes affecting product development and field performance, and advise management accordingly.
• Capture and share lessons learned across teams, and conduct benchmarking to identify best practices and future trends.

Stakeholder & Team Engagement

• Mentor and guide the Quality team, setting high standards through personal example.
• Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment and performance.
• Collaborate across departments to support strategic goals and ensure compliance with quality and cost objectives.
• Participate in cross-functional leadership teams to shape strategies and process improvements.
• Work closely with Advanced Development and Engineering teams to enhance early-stage innovation.
• Provide training and guidance to global quality teams to ensure consistency.

Education & Experience

• Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, or related sciences
• At least 7 years of experience in quality engineering or a closely related field
• Specialised Skills & Training
• Solid understanding of ISO standards, PPAP, and other quality systems
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong analytical and computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Demonstrated ability to lead teams through influence and collaboration
• Maintains composure and perspective under pressure
• Proactive approach to identifying and solving problems
• Willingness to travel to current and prospective supplier locations

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in consumer products or similar industries
• Quality certifications such as ASQ CQE, CQM, or equivalent
• Six Sigma certification (Green or Black Belt)
• Familiarity with electronics and manufacturing processes
• Experience conducting supplier assessment audits
• Knowledge of UL1017 or comparable regulatory standards
