reefer technician

Job Purpose:

To carry out effective monitoring, servicing, maintenance, and repair of refrigerated (reefer) containers in compliance with client requirements, global standards, and PTP procedures. The role is critical in ensuring the safe handling of temperature-sensitive cargo and reducing potential cargo claims due to equipment failure.

Key Responsibilities:

Reefer Monitoring & Maintenance

• Monitor all reefer containers to ensure they are running efficiently and free from alarms or malfunctions.
• Conduct pre-trip inspections (PTIs) based on client specifications.
• Carry out temperature, humidity, and ventilation setting adjustments as per cargo requirements.
• Identify and rectify faulty reefer units to prevent cargo damage and delays.
• Report any malfunctioning units, damages, or faults to the Reefer Executive promptly.

Repairs & Parts Handling

• Assist in the diagnosis and repair of electrical and refrigeration faults in reefer containers.
• Coordinate with the Reefer Executive, Reefer Specialist, and Duty Executive for part replacements and repair approval.
• Liaise with the PTIS Reefer Parts Storekeeper to collect and manage necessary replacement parts.
• Perform copper brazing tasks using oxy-acetylene brazing equipment when required.

Tools & Equipment Care

• Maintain and safeguard all personal and common tools provided.
• Report any damaged tools or equipment to the Reefer Office for timely repair or replacement.

Reporting & Communication

• Maintain clear communication with Reefer Executives and Clerks regarding all reefer operations, faults, and replacements.
• Log daily findings and repair activities in compliance with internal reporting standards.

HSSE Compliance

• Adhere strictly to all Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSSE) standards and regulations during work.
• Report any safety hazards, damaged tools, or vehicle-related issues immediately to the relevant authorities.

Information Security

• Ensure compliance with Information Security (IS) and IT policies to protect organizational assets and maintain data privacy and integrity.

Other Duties

• Perform additional tasks or assignments as delegated by superiors from time to time to support departmental goals.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

• SKM Level 3 or Diploma in Refrigeration, Air-Conditioning Servicing and Repairs, Electrical, or equivalent.

Experience & Skills:

• Prior experience in refrigeration systems, electrical maintenance, and wiring diagram interpretation.
• Strong troubleshooting skills in electrical and refrigeration faults.
• Hands-on experience with brazing techniques and oxy-acetylene equipment is preferred.
• Physically and mentally fit, with good eyesight.
• Proficient in basic computer usage, especially for software upgrades in container controllers.
• Possess a valid Class D driving license.
• Able to work effectively in a team and multicultural environment.
• High level of integrity, discipline, and responsibility.
