B0 Chargeman

Job Purpose

To ensure the safe, efficient, and uninterrupted operation of high voltage (HV) and low voltage (LV) electrical systems within the Scheduled Waste-to-Energy Plant. The Chargeman BO is responsible for the operation, preventive and corrective maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical installations and equipment supporting the incineration, boiler, turbine, and auxiliary systems. The role is critical in maintaining compliance with all statutory requirements, particularly those stipulated by the Energy Commission (Suruhanjaya Tenaga), and in upholding the facility's operational reliability and safety standards.

Job Responsibilities

1. Electrical System Operation & Maintenance
   
   • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot HV and LV electrical systems including switchgears, transformers, generators, motors, MCC panels, and distribution boards.
   
   • Ensure reliable power supply to waste-to-energy incinerators, turbines, boilers, and auxiliary systems.
   
   • Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance to minimize downtime and improve equipment reliability.
   
   • Respond promptly to power failures, electrical faults, and emergencies in the plant.
2. Compliance & Regulatory
   
   • Ensure all electrical systems comply with Energy Commission (ST) requirements and statutory regulations.
   
   • Maintain valid licenses, permits, and compliance documentation for HV systems.
3. Safety & Risk Management
   
   • Enforce strict electrical safety standards, lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures, and permit-to-work systems.
   
   • Conduct risk assessments for HV and LV maintenance activities.
   
   • Ensure safe electrical practices in hazardous waste-to-energy environments (handling incinerators, boilers, and high-load equipment).
4. Support & Coordination
   
   • Assist and report to Senior Executive E&I on electrical system performance, breakdowns, and abnormalities.
   
   • Work closely with mechanical, process, and operations teams to ensure plant uptime and process continuity.
   
   • Liaise with contractors, vendors, and statutory bodies for electrical works and compliance requirements.
5. Other Duties
   
   • Carry out duties as assigned by the Senior Executive E&I /Senior Manager Operation.

Key Challenges:

• Ensuring continuous power supply in a high-demand, hazardous waste-to-energy environment.

• Managing HV operations safely while maintaining statutory compliance.

• Balancing preventive maintenance with urgent corrective repairs to minimize plant downtime.

• Adapting to integration of power generation with waste incineration processes.

• Coordinating with multiple stakeholders (operations, SHE, regulatory authorities) under strict environmental and safety regulations.

Job Requirements

Educational Qualifications:

• Minimum SPM or equivalent.
• Must possess a valid Chargeman BO Certificate issued by the Energy Commission (Suruhanjaya Tenaga), Malaysia.

Relevant Experience:

• Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on experience in maintaining high voltage (HV) and low voltage (LV) electrical systems, ideally within power plants, incineration facilities, or utility operations.
• Exposure to waste-to-energy, boiler, or turbine systems is an added advantage.
• Familiarity with statutory compliance, preventive maintenance, and safe operation of HV and LV systems.
• Retired Chargemen (BO/B4) are encouraged to apply.

Key Competencies & Skills:

• Solid understanding of electrical distribution systems, power generation equipment, and HV infrastructure.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and technical drawings.
• Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic capabilities under pressure.
• High level of safety awareness, especially in hazardous and high-risk environments.
• Effective in team collaboration, clear in verbal and written communication, and diligent in reporting and documentation.
