Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and maintain a library system to provide library administration support for effective access to library collections and resources by all users.
- Managing the resources allocated to it in accordance with the recommendations of library policies for the school.
- Responsible for ordering, receiving, organising, cataloguing, and classifying of all reading materials.
- Shelving new books, re-shelves books returned or taken from the shelves by users. Shelf checking to keep stock in classified order. Labelling, stamping, triggering and preparation of stock for circulation.
- To deal with enquiries from users regarding stock and library services.
- Coordinate outreach activities, e.g.reading/story telling sessions, based on weekly/monthly themes with Teachers to encourage students' participation.
- Work with the teachers in various learning projects to cultivate the reading habit among students.
- Organise events, arrange visiting authors, speakers for new books recommendation etc.
- Assists the principal and teachers in sourcing and acquiring required books/reading materials and further development of the library and its resources, establishing and publishing clear rules and regulations for the use of the library and its resources.
- Maintain student memberships for existing and new students.
- Cooperates and networks with other libraries/agencies.
- Keeps the library organized, clean, neat, and welcoming to visitors.
- Prepares bulletin boards and displays on a regular basis.
- Remain current in professional practices and developments, information technologies, and educational research applicable to school library programs.
- To perform any other duties related to school library administration as and when required.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Library and Information Science, Education, or a related field
- Professional qualification in library science or teacher-librarianship is an added advantage.
- Minimum 2 years of experience working in a school library or an educational setting.
- Familiarity with library management systems, digital resources, and cataloguing practices.
- Strong understanding of how to support literacy development and promote reading among students.
- Proficient in both English and Bahasa Malaysia, with good written and verbal communication skills.
- Well-organized, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with teachers and students.
- Passionate about fostering a reading culture and supporting student learning across all subjects.
