Munich Re Malaysia Branch, part of Munich Re, one of the world's leading reinsurers, is recruiting for a CEO to lead the Family (Life) Retakaful operations and strengthen its position as the leading Family Retakaful operator worldwide. You will provide leadership and vision, and assume overall responsibility for the development and management of the business in accordance with the Group Strategy and Guidelines.

The position is based in Kuala Lumpur and reports to the Head of Regional Market Reinsurance Middle East and Africa & Munich Re Retakaful.

Your Role

Branch Management:

  • Responsible for the management and supervision of the Malaysian Branch.
  • Represent the Malaysian Branch towards the local regulatory authorities.

Business Development & Inforce Management:

  • Responsible for the profitable acquisition and management of the family retakaful business within Asia with expansion further afield in due course.
  • Close cooperation with our Munich Re Dubai office for managing retakaful clients from the MENA & Pakistan region.
  • Develop, define and implement the strategies, objectives and business plan to fulfil agreed financial targets within the general operating guidelines.
  • Maintain top-level client contacts and relationships, develop new business opportunities and acquire new business and new client contacts on the strategic and operational levels.
  • Management of existing accounts.

People Leadership:

  • Lead and manage the Malaysian Branch team.
  • Responsible for ensuring the staff members reporting to this position have the requisite specialist knowledge and qualifications.
  • Responsible for the development of technical specialists-in-training and supporting the development of management candidates.
  • Develop and implement guidelines and authorities. Guide and define internal processes based on analysis of the relevant figures and information. Ensure that agreed guidelines and procedures are being adhered to.

Industry and Thought Leadership:

  • Be seen as leading industry expert and thought leader in all matters related to Family Retakaful
  • Represent Munich Re in industry functions as the opinion leader, promoting development of the Family Retakaful market and Munich Re's image as a professional retakaful operator with superior local and global knowledge.
  • Support Life and Health activities and projects in other Munich Re business units as required.

Your profile

  • Advanced university (or other business) degree and professional designation
  • At least 10 years of hands-on Life (re)insurance and (re)takaful experience.
  • Qualified Actuary (e.g. FSA, FIA or equivalent).
  • Excellent leadership and long-term management experience in senior executive positions, preferably in an international environment.
  • High degree of client orientation.
  • Strategic thinking, creativity and strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and negotiation skills.
  • Effective team builder, manager, and decision maker.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English and Bahasa Malaysia.
