Our projects include baseline studies, policy/strategy development and analysis, strategic master planning, and the development of a data analytics platform.

As a Senior Associate or Associate (Urban Data Analyst) in Think City’s S&A team, you will be responsible for solving urban problems using data with quantitative and innovative minds. This includes supporting and developing Think City’s Urban Data Platform, project management, business development and data R&D. The candidate should be able to offer strategic insights and develop models/tools based on analysis of complex datasets includes but not limited to social, economic, environmental, and climate sectors. Skills in Excel is mandatory and proficiency in statistical tools such as SPSS, Python and R are preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

  • Curate, collect, clean, and manage urban data including collecting, structuring, indexing and cataloguing data within the organisation and from external sources.
  • Develop creative problem-solving and analytical approaches to derive new insights from urban data.
  • Apply advanced analytical and statistical skills to process, understand, and visualise data.
  • Generate insights and create models and tools from data that inform evidence-based urban policy and strategy for diverse stakeholders (government, private sector, communities).
  • Synthesise and communicate research/findings to relevant stakeholders via clear and compelling written reports and presentations.
  • Assist team members in other tasks including project management, administration, business development, and research and innovation.
  • Conduct fieldwork – e.g., on-ground data collection and community engagement.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent in quantitative subjects such as economics, computer science, mathematics, statistics, business analytics or data science and related fields (preferably with experience on urban planning, urban sustainable development, infrastructure, transportation, health, etc.).
  • High understanding of the basic principles of data analytics and ability to automate processes and workflows.
  • Advanced skills in Excel including pivot tables, graphing and general advanced functions.
  • Strong knowledge of Power BI – particularly Power Query, M language and DAX.
  • Basic knowledge of SQL, Python and R preferred.
  • Experience with Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) and reporting and/or experience data warehouse/data lake services (i.e. AWS / Microsoft Azure) or data engineering would be a bonus.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English with a minimum working knowledge of Bahasa Malaysia.

Minimum years of experience:

  • Associate: Fresh graduates welcomed.
  • Senior Associate: Typically 2-5 years of work experience in data analysis.

  • Possess good planning, organising, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Senior Associate will also be in a position to provide mentorship to junior staff on technical questions and applying analytical approaches.
