In F-Secure Research, we ensure that our products and services can handle the latest scams in every digital moments targeting consumers through concepting, building rules and detections, working and training machine learning models and guiding various development teams in delivering needed functionalities.

As our Junior Threat Researcher your primary responsibility will involve comprehending the taxonomy and impact of cyber threats on consumers worldwide, particularly scams, in the digital experiences of our users.

You will also play a key role in enhancing and managing reputation-based strategies to counter network threats across the diverse endpoints of our products.


While not a core focus of this role, our team also handles vulnerability reports to operations items such as locating, classifying, analysing, reverse engineering, and detecting threats.

We also work on project-based items such as building new protection capabilities for new product lines and performing detection ramp-ups or false positive ramp-downs for various products.

These are potential areas for your career growth, all within the same team.


You will become part of a global team consisting of researchers, threat intelligence and data science experts, based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Additionally, you have the option to work in a hybrid mode, provided that you are already residing within the same country.

Due to current restrictions imposed by the Government of Malaysia, we are unable to offer relocation support for this role.


Key responsibilities:

Be a consumer yourself and have the ability to identify, understand and research on threats associated with scams.
Collaborate with other researchers to find, cluster, and classify malicious threats, particularly on URLs and mobile threats.
Document your research and potentially turn it into a publication (blogpost, whitepaper, public presentation).

Have some ideas to improve protection? Collaborate with other research teams to turn ideas into cutting-edge protection technologies aimed to combat scams.

Perform analysis on individual threats when necessary to understand its behaviour.


Our estimated range for this role is about RM3500 - RM4500 per month based on the requirements and responsibilities of this role.

You have a good grasp of cybersecurity threats that impact digital life, with a focus on their tactics, techniques, procedures, tools, and significant noteworthy attacks.

You can understand and explain basic computer security concepts and have good usage understanding of different operating systems.
You are comfortable with coding in Python and have some experience with software deployment tooling.
You have good command of English language, both written and spoken.
You are growth-oriented and a team player.
