Job Title:
Geriatrician

Job Summary:
As a Geriatrician, you will be responsible for providing specialized medical care to elderly patients.

Your role involves conducting comprehensive assessments, diagnosing and treating age-related health issues, optimizing quality of life, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to address the unique needs of older adults.


Key Responsibilities:

Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment:
Conduct thorough assessments of elderly patients, considering their medical, functional, cognitive, and psychosocial status.
Evaluate medication use, nutritional status, and fall risk assessments.

Diagnosis and Treatment:
Diagnose and manage a wide range of age-related health conditions, including chronic diseases, cognitive impairment, frailty, and polypharmacy.
Prescribe medications, recommend therapeutic interventions, and coordinate specialized care when needed.

Dementia and Cognitive Disorders:
Evaluate and manage cognitive disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease and other types of dementia.
Provide support and guidance to patients and their families.

End-of-Life Care and Advance Care Planning:Assist patients and families in making informed decisions about end-of-life care, including advance directives, hospice care, and palliative care.

Falls and Mobility Assessment:
Assess fall risk and develop strategies to prevent falls and maintain mobility.
Recommend physical therapy and assistive devices as appropriate.

Multidisciplinary Collaboration:

Collaborate with a team of healthcare professionals, including nurses, social workers, physical therapists, and occupational therapists, to provide comprehensive care.


Patient and Family Education:
Educate patients and their families about age-related health conditions, treatment options, and preventive measures.
Address questions and concerns regarding the aging process.

Long-Term Care and Rehabilitation:
Provide medical oversight for patients in long-term care facilities and rehabilitation centers.
Coordinate with the staff to ensure continuity of care.

Record Keeping:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for each elderly patient.
Ensure compliance with documentation standards and legal requirements.

Quality Assurance:
Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance the quality and safety of geriatric care services.
Adhere to infection control protocols.

Qualifications:

  • Medical degree (MD or equivalent).
  • Completion of a residency program in internal medicine or family medicine, followed by a fellowship in geriatric medicine.
  • Valid medical license and registration.
  • Strong clinical and diagnostic skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Empathy and patience when working with elderly patients.
  • Commitment to patient care and safety.
  • Willingness to participate in oncall duties and work flexible hours.

From RM20,000.00 per month
