Primary Objective:


Lead Shariah audits for RHB Group to assess and subsequently provide independent assurance to the Senior Management, Shariah Committee and the Board Audit Committee that RHB Group's Shariah governance and controls put in place are designed and operating effectively and in compliance with Shariah requirements prescribed by the regulators.


Key Responsibilities

Shariah Audit Methodology & Framework

  • Lead the rollout of the Shariah audit programme within Group Internal Audit (GIA)'s respective teams, to ensure alignment and consistency with GIA's overall audit framework.
  • Review, evaluate and provide timely feedback to the Head based on the parameters set in the Shariah audit risk assessment methodology to ensure the robustness of the annual Shariah audit planning process.
  • Perform analysis and ensure the database of all Shariahrelated audit issues raised by GIA to identify high risk areas or areas which are prone to have control lapses, to enable GIA to provide valueadded service to and assist Senior Management to come up with sustainable remediation actions to address the lapses and to prevent recurrence.
  • Proactively initiate and lead engagements with internal stakeholders to collaborate and keep abreast with changes made to the business activities / processes or regulatory changes in Shariahrelated areas in other geographies where RHB has presence and Shariah products and services are offered.

Shariah Audit Subject Matter Expertise

  • Design and regularly update the Shariah audit programmes, including those Shariah programmes used by other audit teams.
  • Lead and execute Shariah audits, including providing onsite or offsite support to audit teams within GIA to ensure that teams' audit objectives are met.
  • Provide input and/or recommendation on Shariahrelated issues raised by the respective audit teams to ensure that actions taken by Management to rectify and remediate these issues are adequate and sustainable to prevent recurrence.
  • Assist the Head to build internal Shariah capabilities in GIA through formal or informal learning/training/secondment initiatives.
  • Lead and execute adhoc audits or validation activities on Shariahrelated areas, as and when requested by Management, Shariah Committee, Board Audit Committee or regulators.
Attend and participate in Shariah-related working groups and governance forums to provide input, particularly on Shariah-related controls, to ensure that any gaps are addressed before the initiatives/enhancements are presented to Senior Management for endorsement/approval

  • Requirements

Requirements:

Qualification & Experience

  • Relevant Degree and/or Masters from recognized and accredited universities / higher learning institutions.
  • At least 8 years of experience in audit/ risk/ compliance functions and preferably in banking.
  • Strong analytical skills, meticulous, good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good knowledge of internal control principles / practices, banking activities, risk management, corporate governance and statutory regulations.
  • Additional (if any, added advantage)
  • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA); or
Certified Bank Auditor (CBA); or

Chartered Professional in Islamic Finance (CPIF); or

Certified Professional Shariah Auditor (CPSA); or

Other relevant Shariah / Islamic banking, auditing or accounting certification/membership with relevant professional bodies.
