We are seeking to hire an EAL Teacher Assistant or English Teacher (Secondary) in an international school for commencement January 2024.


Reporting to:
EAL Coordinator or Head of English (Secondary).

Purpose of Role


To provide Amazing Learning opportunities so that students continually get better through the delivery of high-quality teaching and the creation of effective resources.

Key Responsibilities
Support for all students in the English and EAL department

  • Follow the policies and practices which reflect the school's commitment to high achievement, amazing learning and effective feedback.
  • Attend to children's personal needs, including pastoral, social, health, physical hygiene, minor first aid and welfare matters.
  • Establish a good relationship with students, be a role model by presenting a positive personal image and respond appropriately to individual needs.
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all students.
  • Under the direction of the EAL Coordinator, prepare suitable materials and resources to help students language skills grow.
  • Make full use of ICT in learning activities and develop student's competence and independence in its use.
  • Be aware of any Special Education Needs (SEN) their students may have and methods in supporting them.
Specific Support for EAL Students

  • Work with small groups of students to continuously improve their English language skills in listening (understanding), speaking, reading and writing to enhance their ability to access the curriculum.
  • Provide inclass language support to targeted EAL students in their mainstream lessons.
  • Set high expectations for pupils in relation to progress and achievement.
  • Enabling, encouraging, and motivating EAL students to become independent and confident users of English.
  • Ensure effective development of pupils' individual and collaborative study skills necessary for them to become increasingly independent in their work and to complete tasks independently when out of school.
Supporting the EAL Community

  • Maintain open communication with parents on their child's progress and any issues the child may be facing in acquiring and enhancing their language skills.
  • Provide translations of communication and other essential information under the guidance of the EAL Coordinator where necessary.
