About the Role

NextWave are working with a leading private equity renewable energy fund to help grow their team in Malaysia. They are putting together the core members of their team and are looking for a VP, Investments to work on their renewable energy fund in South East Asia.

The Position

Based in KL, you will be an integral member of the close-knit Fund investment team that works across technologies, geographies and the full investment lifecycle.

You will lead the execution of greenfield clean energy acquisitions, financings and exits and the management of development and construction phase portfolio projects and support the Partners and Directors with the sourcing of new investment opportunities.

You will lead and oversee the entire process, both internally and externally, until completion. You will lead and oversee the structuring, valuation, due diligence, financing and coordinate relationships with external partners and advisors including developers, offtakers, lenders, technical, legal, and EPC contractors.

You will work with the Partners to drive the negotiation of agreements and oversee the preparation of Investment Committee materials with responsibility for the development of projects towards financial close / final investment decision.

You will also work with Asset Management teams and support in managing the fund's existing investments, liaising with partners and developers to take projects successfully through development, construction and into operation, all the time protecting the company's commercial interests.

You will play an active role in deal sourcing and will develop an in-depth understanding of target sectors and markets and assist in marketing to developers, advisors and intermediaries to ensure a pipeline of future transactions.

Finally, you will be a key member of an international and dynamic team focused on making projects happen and adding real value to investments and the transition to net zero. You will help manage, train and develop the Managers, Associates and Analysts, and will contribute to the positive, professional and collegiate working environment. There is a genuine prospect of progression based on merit.

The successful candidate

• The work environment is fast paced, stimulating, global and demanding.

• We are therefore looking for a self-driven, collaborative, and analytical professional holding a relevant master's degree within Economics, Finance, Business, or other related fields.

• We expect you to have a minimum of 12 to 16 years of professional experience, preferably with deep exposure to clean energy infrastructure projects.

• This experience may have been gained at another infrastructure investor, a utility company or developer.

Key qualifications

• Be a team player with the confidence to exercise judgement appropriately, engaging with colleagues at all levels of seniority

• Excellent quantitative and analytical skills and very strong attention to detail

• Strong commercial mindset and a deep understanding of the value drivers and risks of clean energy projects

• Familiarity with transaction documentation and agreements relating to the development, construction and operations of assets (such as JVA, SPA, SHA, PPA, EPC, OMA, etc) and with project finance / infrastructure finance

• Solid corporate finance knowledge, particularly in terms of mastering valuation and financial modelling

• Structured and project orientated approach to your work

• Ability to work well under pressure and take on responsibility and ownership

• Substantial experience with Excel and PowerPoint

• Experience with power (preferred), energy in the wider sense, or infrastructure projects

• Experience in bringing investment opportunities to corporate decision making bodies such as investment committees and boards of directors

• A self-starter attitude with tenacity, initiative and a willingness to commit to deliver the required results

• Excellent written and verbal communication in English and proficiency in at least one language spoken in Southeast Asia
