As we embark on our transformation journey as a group, we aim to construct loosely connected yet strongly aligned components designed for reusability and future changes. The consolidation of our diverse workloads into unified applications and solutions across the board is essential. All applications must adhere to common services, platforms, architectural principles, and design patterns. A framework for multi-cloud adoption and migration needs to be established, along with building cloud-appropriate structures for workloads and implementing cloud designs. Automation of software integration and deployment, as well as provision of infrastructure as code, will be crucial.

The engineering teams tasked with designing and implementing new capabilities and features must start with a clear vision of how their applications and infrastructure will function within this architecture, then engineer them accordingly. Establishing a common set of parameters and tools ensures a consistent approach to technology, enhancing security and reliability. Architectural flexibility directly impacts potential strategic and operational advantages.

The Enterprise Architecture team plays a key role in enabling the stated ambitions, guiding the development of architecture frameworks and policies that shape our technology landscape for the group, covering business, infrastructure, data, applications, and security architecture, aligning with both current and future enterprise strategies.

This role demands the candidate to leverage their expertise to support the Enterprise Architecture team's delivery of these objectives. Moreover, the role will focus extensively on:

  • Asia, Africa geographies to shape their future architecture roadmap.
  • Multi-cloud infrastructure regarding policy and design framework.
  • Collaboration with GBS Business Design Lead, Chief of GBS, and Functional Leads to establish new standards and devise target architectures for GBS.
  • Performing architecture assessments and outlining target state solutions.
  • Defining the technical scope and driving the optimal solution to meet the technical requirements of Functional teams.
  • Supporting technology solutioning and estimating in proposals, planning, and pricing.
  • Developing long-term technology strategies aligned with business objectives.
  • Identifying services to enhance performance, support, and capabilities.
  • Envisioning and crafting the long-term architectural direction, emphasizing reusable components and platforms/products.
  • Formulating Group Infrastructure policy and multi-cloud framework and design in collaboration with domain architects from Digital, Data, AI, Engineering, Security, operations, and Local Business Units.
  • Establishing a future state architecture that aligns with business strategy, focusing on convergence, modernization, cost efficiency, functionality, interpretability, cloud-native design, resilience, security, and future-proofing.
  • Maintaining an up-to-date perspective on emerging technology trends for valuable insights, direction, vendors, and methodologies.
  • Evaluating alternative design options and trade-offs to address functional and non-functional requirements; Recommending designs that consider existing applications, architecture, operating models, and end-state architecture.
  • Overseeing end-to-end architecture, high- & low-level designs for various systems and applications in line with Africa, India, UK & group strategy; Leading the creation of detailed design specifications for application development and modification; Defining integration patterns.
  • Ensuring the adoption and implementation of defined solutions; Providing technical expertise to enable application design and iteration; Collaborating with technical teams to develop integration plans and monitor progress for Africa, India, and UK.
  • Leading one of the Enterprise Architecture clusters essential for harmonizing application architectures.
  • Ensuring that extensions and additions to the defined architecture align with evolving business and technology landscapes, subjected to thorough vetting processes.
  • Ensuring that collaborative efforts such as design and engineering are accompanied by stringent governance on critical factors like security, availability, and performance.

Who we are seeking:

Technical Skills & Work Experience:

  • Proven experience as an Architecture leader with extensive overall experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to comprehend business strategies, processes, and effectively translate them into technical solutions.
  • Hands-on experience in cloud engineering, SRE (preferably Azure and GCP).
  • Experience in software development and system administration.
  • In-depth knowledge of technical architecture and contemporary design patterns, encompassing microservices, serverless functions, etc.
  • Comprehensive understanding of End-to-End Architecture, covering the Enterprise Java Stack, Front-End technologies, mobile applications (Android and iOS), Middleware, Databases (SQL & NoSQL), Data Warehouses, iSeries & DB2 systems, and RESTful APIs.
  • Proficiency in streaming technologies or frameworks like Kafka.
  • Thorough understanding of Enterprise Integration and Messaging Patterns, along with SOA Governance practices.
  • Familiarity with one or more Architecture Frameworks (e.g., TOGAF, etc.).
  • Solid grasp of DevOps concepts.
