Job Description

PRIMARY FUNCTION/OBJECTIVE:
Provides specialist medical/scientific strategic and operational input for Singapore into core medical affairs activities such as: healthcare professional/provider interactions (Payers, Patients, Prescribers, and Providers); generation of clinical and scientific data (enhancing therapeutic benefit and value); educational initiatives (medical education, data, guidelines and value proposition); safeguarding patient safety (risk minimization activities / safety surveillance activities). Works closely with sales, marketing and commercial teams to provide strategic medical input into core brand (product) strategies, and to support medical/marketing activities (promotional material generation/product launches) and market access.

CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develop and maintain in depth knowledge for assigned product(s) / relevant therapeutic area(s) through attendance / participation at key internal meetings/training sessions, relevant congresses, and seminars and by regular self-study of the national/Area literature.
  2. Provide expert medical/scientific advice for assigned products and related therapeutic areas, including responding to requests for scientific/technical information; contribute to the development and medical and scientific accuracy of core dossiers generated by the medical department.
  3. Support internal teams such as sales and marketing and members of the Affiliate Brand Team to develop their scientific and technical expertise through the delivery of scientific update presentations.
  4. Establish and maintain professional and credible relationships with key thought leaders / external experts and academic centers.
  5. Deliver scientific presentations and medical education programs to healthcare professionals individually or in groups.
  6. Screen relevant literature and other information from relevant scientific societies meetings and conferences and develop summaries of key messages for use within the Company.
  7. Deliver training to sales forces and other departments; develop and update relevant training materials.
  8. Involved in the Medical/Brand planning process for the assigned Brand and therapeutic areas.
  9. Clinical Research Activities:
    1. Design and implement clinical research projects within defined standards and budgets.
    2. Provide the required oversight to manage review, approval and conduct of IIS studies.
    3. Support the affiliate Clinical Research Department in the management of clinical studies, as appropriate.
  10. Review and preparation of promotional/ Non-Promotional material.
  11. Provide medical/scientific input into marketing strategy and key commercial initiatives, as required.
  12. Ensure compliance with all applicable national laws and regulations, guidelines, codes of conduct, AbbVie's policies and procedures and accepted standards of best practice.

ACCOUNTABILITY & SCOPE:

  1. Provide input, as required, into the development of product or TA specific strategic medical affairs plans for the affiliate medical department and local commercial plans.
  2. Ensure that local medical affairs implementation plans for assigned products / therapeutic areas are executed efficiently.
  3. Provide leadership, line management and development for direct reports, as appropriate.
  4. Ensure adherence to all applicable national laws and regulations, guidelines, codes of conduct, AbbVie standards, policies and procedures.
  5. Operate as a scientific interface and resource to HCPs/Customer(s), Health Care Institutions, External Experts, and professional associations regarding assigned AbbVie Products or Products in Development.
  6. Provide specialist medical/scientific strategic input and operational support of core activities.

Qualifications

  1. Minimum 1-2 years post-qualification work experience in Medical Affairs or Marketing function.
  2. Experience working within the pharmaceutical industry or within clinical research is preferred.
  3. Experience working collaboratively and cross-functionally in a matrixed structure, supporting multiple stakeholders.
  4. Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and convey clinical and non-clinical technical information effectively to individuals with varying degrees of scientific acumen.
  5. Demonstrated strong presentation and teaching skills with ability to effectively share information with others.
  6. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong relationships; to lead & engage.
  7. Experience applying analytical skills, to critically evaluate and effectively communicate key clinical data.
  8. Experience working with technology, including systems such as Microsoft Office.
