Country Accountant

Role Overview:

  • The Country Accountant reports to the CEO and Finance Director (FD) and collaborates with the country's senior management team.
  • This is a hands-on and comprehensive role with responsibilities across various financial functions, including accounting, payroll, taxation, reporting, and inter-departmental collaboration.
  • This position requires a detail-oriented and proactive individual who can manage multiple financial tasks while optimizing the company's financial performance and ensuring compliance with local regulations.
  • The role will be supported by 1 junior finance staff to assist with day-to-day financial tasks, such as data entry, invoice processing, and report preparation.
  • The position is based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting: Calculate and submit monthly trial balance, P&L, balance sheet, and monthly accounts to the parent company.
  • Receivables & Client Relationships: Oversee aging debtors, issue invoices, collect payments, and maintain client relations.
  • Payables Management: Ensure timely payment of payables, including petty cash, supplier invoices, and third-party payments.
  • Inter-Company Accounts: Maintain and reconcile transactions between affiliates or branches.
  • Tax Compliance: Ensure all company taxes are submitted on time, including Bi-Monthly SST, WHT (Withholding Tax), and CIT (Corporate Income Tax). Prepare and submit relevant tax filings, ensuring compliance with Malaysian tax regulations.
  • Payroll Management: Process monthly payroll and ensure timely tax and pension payments.
  • Statutory Audit: Lead the annual country audit, handling queries and reporting.
  • Cash Flow Management: Ensure adequate cash flow for operational needs.
  • Collaboration: Work with internal teams and regional offices to ensure smooth operations and provide financial support.
  • Project Profitability: Track and report project financial performance to senior management.
  • Cost Optimization: Propose monthly cost-saving strategies to maximize value.
  • Budgeting & Planning: Collaborate on company budgeting, ensuring approval from management before implementation.

Prerequisites:

  • Education: Degree in Accounting/Finance (or equivalent).
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of similar experience in accounting/finance.
  • Certifications: ACCA, CPA, or similar accounting professional qualifications are a plus.
  • Knowledge: Proficiency in Malaysian accounting practices, financial reporting, auditing, and tax.
  • Software Skills: Experience with accounting software like Xero and Google Suite.

  • Deadline-Oriented: Proven ability to meet tight deadlines and deliver accurate, timely financial reports.
