The general duties of an OSHC are to ensure compliance and to promote a safe conduct of work. Regulatory responsibilities of an OSHC are specifically prescribed in the Occupational Safety and Health (Safety and Health Coordinator) Regulations. The OSHC should be able to advise his employer so to achieve the objective of protecting fellow workers from construction works hazards. An OSHC has specific knowledge on:

- OSH legislations;
- Occupational risk assessment;
- Preparation of safe operating procedure;
- Monitoring the effectiveness of control measures;
- Encouraging worker’s participation; and
- Continuously improving to ensure sustained compliance to OSH law.
- To conduct safety briefing to the new workers
- To conduct walk through inspection at the workplace
- To issue Personal Protective Equipment(PPE) to the worker and ensure that the workers wear it properly
- To conduct safety training and emergency response plan
- To submit daily, weekly and monthly report
- Supervision of sub-contractor's works to ensure compliancy of all safety regulations and client's requirements
- Enforcing company's rules and procedures on occupational safety, health and environment.
- To ensure high safety standards and safe working conditions at company's workshop.
- Conducting internal safety audits and workplace inspections.
- Conducting safety induction briefings for new employees and visitors.
- Investigating and preparing reports on incidents and accidents in the workplace.
- Conduct daily toolbox meeting for workers to ensure all safety information and issues are communicated and highlighted.
- Ensure all related material mechanism is available at all time.
