**Staff Nurse (Non-Post Basic)**
**Roles**
Staff Nurse assists Nephrology nurses in providing dialysis treatment for the End-Stage Renal Dialysis (“ESRD”) patient.
Note: All duties are performed under the direct supervision of a Nephrology nurse in accordance with the Company policies & procedures, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (“OSHA”), Malaysian Society for Quality in Health (“MSQH”) federal, state, and local regulations
**Responsibilities**
The following duties and responsibilities generally reflect the expectations of this position but are not intended to be all inclusive.
1) Receives patient into treatment/exam area; weighs patient, takes temperature and blood pressure pre
- and post-dialysis; documents on all dialysis flow sheets.
2) Performs and records vital signs and all other parameters of ESRD patients as per Company’s policy and/or state regulations; obtains blood samples and culture specimens and prepares for shipment.
3) Collects patient data, including but not limited to:
a. Monitor throughout treatment - reporting changing, incidents and patient feedback to Nephrology Nurse.
b. documents patient observations and seeks guidance when levels are out of normal range for ESRD patients reports patient parameters to nephrology nurse as needed.
4) Set ups and monitors dialysis machines for correct functioning, responds to visual and audible alarms and makes appropriate adjustments before, during and after the dialysis treatment, performs safety checks as directed by the nephrology nurse
5) Initiates dialysis via approved accesses using proper cannulation or central venous catheter (“CVC”) techniques in accordance with state, federal, and local regulations.
6) Performs clerical duties as needed which may include: filing, lab requisitions, scheduling appointments, answering phones, ordering supplies, billing, copying, faxing, data entry, maintaining patient charts.
7) Dismantles, cleans, and disinfects dialysis machines and equipment in accordance to Company’s procedures; performs appropriate end of therapy terminal cleaning and disinfection of the dialysis equipment
8) If performing reuse function, know and understand all procedures related to dialyzer reuse. Responsible for the Dialyser Reprocessing Station for correct functioning.
9) Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned in assisting Nephrology Nurse.
**SKILLS & EXPERIENCE AND ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS**
**Minimum Qualifications**
- Education, licenses, certifications, and experience required to fulfil the essential duties, include computer skills as required.
- Nursing diploma/degree from accredited school of nursing required
- New graduate, less than one year after obtaining license
- Current CPR certification required
**Language skills**
- Fluent in the written and verbal skills necessary to perform successfully.
- The essential functions, duties and responsibilities of the position
- Ability To Read, Speak, And Write English with clarity of expression sufficient to communicate technical and complex concepts to teammates, patients and patient’s family members in clear and easily understandable terms required
- Ability to understand clinical/medical vocabulary written or spoken in English required.
**Work Environment**
- Job required tasks routinely involve a potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, tissues or potential spills or splashes. Uses of appropriate personal protection measures are required for every healthcare provider in these positions.
- Care may be extremely complex: patients may have numerous comorbid conditions including, but not limited to, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hypertension, infectious disease, bone disease, or psychiatric conditions.
- In addition, many face psychosocial issues. The nurse's role is to help patients manage their lives - succeed at school or work, socialize, maintain relationships, or enjoy hobbies - while effectively dealing with their health issues.
