About this Opportunity

We are looking for a skilled underwriting professional to lead our global underwriting function as Global Head of Underwriting. The successful candidate will have experience in underwriting and management, with a proven track record of driving business growth and profitability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the global underwriting function and manage a team of underwriters who support various channels.
  • Develop and implement strategies to drive business growth and profitability.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with intermediaries and business partners in the area of underwriting service delivery, product development, and innovation.
  • Manage the budget and resources to achieve business objectives.
  • Ensure ongoing technical development of underwriters in line with staff development plans and ideal DAL state.
  • Foster a culture of awareness among the team regarding the business plan and its context, enabling informed decision-making.
  • Apply reinsurance strategies to safeguard the portfolio.
  • Adhere to underwriting standards, instructions, and good practices to minimize risk and maximize efficiency.
  • Provide technical expertise to identify issues and opportunities within the area of expertise.
  • Demonstrate understanding and awareness of market dynamics and market cycles to drive business performance.
  • Assist in managing resources across the team to ensure business requirements are met.
  • Promote the department, division, and company positively to maximize brand leverage.
  • Contribute to the development of the team's business plan to maximize productivity and performance.
  • Underwrite complex insurance risks in accordance with the business plan and personal authority to meet business objectives.
  • Act as a role model and demonstrate good leadership behaviors.
  • Support the divisional underwriting function to actively manage talent (attract, recruit, develop, and retain) to build people capability for the future.
  • Key Performance Indicators: Growth & Profitability - GWP including Renewal and New Business vs. Plan, GWP per Underwriter, NCOR%, UW profit for Corporate channel, Renewal retention rate, and New Business pipeline in Salesforce.
  • Key Performance Indicators: MTP and Broker Servicing & Satisfaction - Broker survey results.
  • Key Performance Indicators: Achieve overall local underwriting governance requirement and internal audit, Cell reviews completed timely each month, required actions identified and monitored until complete, Appropriate reporting in place across all portfolios to cover off GUC requirements and allow for active portfolio management.
