Our global business operates in multiple locations across New Zealand, Australia, Malaysia, and Japan, delivering material handling automation, self-service technology, and intralogistics solutions to our partners worldwide.
We have an opportunity for a Senior General Manager based in Malaysia to drive our Malaysia operations, reporting to the Executive General Manager based in Australia.
The Role:
You will be providing leadership in support of a matrix type organisation to our Engineering, People and Culture, Procurement, Finance, IT, Project Management, and Customer Support teams in Kuala Lumpur and the Factory Assembly and Quality teams based in Nilai.
As the General Manager, you will have up to 6 direct reports with a matrix of indirect reports in two locations. You will play a pivotal role in our success, overseeing and managing our team of professionals and all aspects of production, quality control, efficiency, and safety operations at both our Nilai manufacturing/assembly factory and at our Kuala Lumpur office.
Your Key Responsibilities:
- Be part of the senior leadership, building relationships, supporting improvement, and consulting on policies.
- Ensure compliance with local company and statutory requirements, align team performance with the local and global strategies and initiatives.
- Drive Profit and Loss targets against budgets and implement improvements.
- Prepare annual budgets in line with company objectives.
- Lead a matrix type organisation with administrative leadership to our teams.
- Deliver on all design, project, and other professional functions produced in Malaysia working cross-functionally through discipline leads to consistently deliver high quality, timely delivery.
- Act as the chief spokesperson and subject matter expert for operations in Daifuku Oceania in Malaysia.
- Liaise closely with the technology and product design teams in Japan, leveraging knowledge and experience to build capabilities and synergies.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders to produce reports for Executives to ensure timely deliverables.
- Build effective relationships between operations, technology, and corporate divisions.
- Champion safe working practices for self and others in accordance with the health and safety policies and procedures.
- Model effective communication and champion the provision of constructive feedback.
- Coach, mentor, develop the team and disseminate best practices.
- Oversee the Nilai production facility, improve efficiency and quality.
- Manage execution and delivery of cross-functional product development projects.
- Develop and implement quality control processes and systems to continuously monitor and improve product quality.
About You:
We are looking for a results-driven leader who can manage operational activities in a proactive manner, delivering on KPIs and strategic objectives set for Malaysia.
The ideal candidate will have:
- A related technical engineering qualification at tertiary level.
- Proven senior leadership, operations, and broad management experience which includes operations, manufacturing, project and engineering, and sales.
- In-depth knowledge of sales, production, engineering, supply chain, procurement, finances, and project management in an operational management environment.
- Experience or exposure in the design and construction of mechanical and/or electrical/controls systems.
- Previous experience or skills working in project scheduling packages such as Microsoft Project, Primavera, or similar.
- Fluent communicator with experience presenting information, written and spoken in both English and Malay at senior level.
