Job Description

The Discipline Lead Engineer - Process will be responsible for delivering project scope and technical solutions in accordance with SBM management system and standards, as well as client requirements. This role will involve coordinating a team of engineers and designers to deliver cost-effective and competitive solutions for process discipline projects, maximizing value for clients while ensuring timely delivery within budget and quality standards.

  1. This involves taking ownership of defining and developing discipline scope by understanding and evaluating project requirements, identifying dependencies, and obtaining alignment with project stakeholders to ensure safety and quality are not compromised.
  2. Collaborating with the Discipline Manager and Engineering Project Manager to accurately forecast man-hours, resource needs, and completion dates for deliverables.
  3. Setting team expectations for quality standards and enforcing safety requirements to meet project needs, corporate standards, and industry regulations.

The measure of effectiveness in this role will be productivity, demonstrated understanding of discipline design impact on other disciplines and functions, cost of non-quality, and feedback from area EPM/overall EPM.

Key Responsibilities
  • Understanding project requirements and assigning tasks to team members.
  • Ensuring each team member understands their role and responsibilities.
  • Providing coaching and guidance as needed to team members, partnering with the Discipline Manager for mentoring staff.
  • Addressing performance issues proactively and partnering with the Discipline Manager to improve individual and team performance.
  • Promoting a positive work environment to maintain high employee engagement.
  • Ensuring previous lessons learned are incorporated into the project to minimize the impact of expected or unforeseen changes, capturing new lessons learned, and sharing them with the Engineering Project Manager and Discipline Manager for future projects.

The measure of effectiveness in this role will be stakeholder feedback on team leadership, issuance of deliverables within agreed timeframes, and evidence of support for staff improvement and development.

This role requires effective interface management to ensure changes are managed appropriately. This involves proper communication with internal/external clients to keep all parties informed of project developments, tracking areas likely to change to reduce the 'surprise' element, added costs, and delays to the project.

  1. Documenting all deviations from agreed scope and budget hours to adjust man-hour forecasts and project completion dates accordingly.
  2. Coordinating with other Discipline Lead Engineers for interfaces, understanding and monitoring all interfaces with Class Society and Clients, and reviewing relevant documents in a timely manner.
  3. Managing interfaces with vendors, subcontractors, and third-party consultants, reviewing relevant documents thoroughly and in a timely manner.

The measure of effectiveness in this role will be demonstrated effective interfaces within and across disciplines and timely closure of interface issues.
