Job Summary:

This role involves providing high-quality legal support to our regional headquarters and operations across Southeast Asia. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in handling complex commercial contracts, advising on regulatory compliance, and managing relationships with external lawyers and consultants.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Commercial Contracts: Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts, including IT/software contracts, business contracts, agreements, and documents.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with local laws, regulations, and standards, including those related to data protection, intellectual property, and employment.
  • External Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with external lawyers, consultants, and other stakeholders.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with business operations, including litigation and regulatory non-compliance.
  • Advice and Guidance: Provide strategic advice to senior management on legal and regulatory matters, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and other business transactions.

Requirements:

  • Qualifications: Degree in Law from a top-tier university in Malaysia or abroad.
  • Practice Experience: Minimum ten (10) years' experience practicing law in a law firm with business law orientation or in the in-house legal department of an organization, ideally locally listed.
  • Industry Exposure: Exposure and substantial experience in the Healthcare, Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Performance Materials, Technology industries is preferred.
  • Legal Management: Extensive experience in legal management, including organizing a legal service team, defining coverage and sourcing models, reporting, alternative billing methods, legal process outsourcing, and knowledge of relevant technology capacity.
  • Business Acumen: Demonstrate advanced knowledge and understanding of the business and industry.
  • Corporate Knowledge: Demonstrate advanced knowledge of corporate law, contract and commercial law, IT/software-related law, including country-specific laws.
  • Language Skills: Fluency in English (both written and spoken). Proficiency in any other language is an additional asset.
  • Cultural Awareness: Demonstrate appreciation and respect for cultural sensitivities especially in cross-country/culture interactions.
  • Confidentiality: Demonstrate ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential information with integrity.
  • Office Productivity Tools: Proficiencies in office productivity tools (e.g., Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Cultural/Legal Framework: Demonstrate knowledge of adaptation of the law within the cultural/legal framework of Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei.
