Safety and Health Officer

**RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS ROLE**:
**Compliance Management**:

- Ensure adherence to all safety and health regulations, including OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) standards and guidelines specific to the manufacturing of medical devices.
- Regularly review and update safety policies and procedures to align with changing regulations and industry best practices

**Risk Assessment and Mitigation**:

- Identify potential hazards in the workplace, including chemical, biological, ergonomic, and physical risks associated with manufacturing processes.
- Conduct risk assessments and develop strategies to mitigate identified risks, implementing controls and safety measures accordingly.

**Training and Education**:

- Develop and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for all employees, focusing on topics such as proper handling of equipment, emergency procedures, and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ensure that all employees receive adequate training on safety protocols and procedures, including new hires and those transitioning to new roles.

**Incident Management**:

- Oversee the investigation of workplace incidents, accidents, or near-misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Maintain accurate records of all incidents and injuries, reporting findings to management and relevant regulatory agencies as required.

**Safety Inspections and Audits**:

- Conduct regular inspections of the manufacturing facility to assess compliance with safety regulations and identify areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address safety deficiencies and implement corrective actions based on inspection findings.

**Emergency Preparedness**:

- Develop and implement emergency response plans, including procedures for evacuation, medical emergencies, and hazardous material spills.
- Conduct drills and exercises to test the effectiveness of emergency plans and ensure that employees are adequately prepared to respond to potential crises.

**Environmental Health and Sustainability**:

- Monitor environmental health factors within the manufacturing facility, such as air quality, noise levels, and waste management practices.
- Identify opportunities to enhance sustainability initiatives and reduce the environmental impact of manufacturing operations.

**Basic Requirements and Skills needed**:

- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Certification as a Safety Professional (e.g., CSP, CIH) preferred.
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the medical device industry.
- Strong understanding of safety regulations and standards, including OSHA requirements.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively train and educate employees on safety matters.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to conduct thorough risk assessments and incident investigations.
