**Occupational Therapist - Role Overview**

As an Occupational Therapist, your role is to help individuals regain, maintain, or develop the skills needed for daily living and working. You’ll work with patients of all ages to promote independence, improve function, and enhance quality of life.

**What You’ll Do** **Assess Patient Needs**
- Evaluate physical, mental, and developmental abilities
- Conduct structured assessments, interviews, and observations
- Identify challenges affecting daily function

**Create Personalized Therapy Plans**
- Set realistic, goal-oriented treatment plans
- Design engaging and purposeful activities to build motor skills, cognition, and self-care abilities

**Deliver Therapy and Support**
- Guide patients through exercises and tasks to strengthen coordination, mobility, and problem-solving
- Help patients re-learn everyday tasks like feeding, writing, and dressing

**Adapt Environments for Safety & Independence**
- Recommend tools like wheelchairs, grab bars, or ergonomic aids
- Suggest adjustments to living or work spaces to improve accessibility

**Support Families and Caregivers**
- Teach proper use of assistive equipment
- Provide education on home strategies to continue progress outside therapy sessions

**Who You’ll Work With**
- **Children** - those with developmental delays, autism, ADHD, or sensory issues
- **Adults** - recovering from injury, stroke, or surgery
- **Seniors** - facing aging-related issues like arthritis, dementia, or fall risk
- **Mental health clients** - dealing with psychiatric conditions like anxiety or schizophrenia

**Where You’ll Work**
- Hospitals (rehab, orthopaedics, neurology)
- Community clinics
- Private therapy centers
- Home care settings

**What You Bring**
- Sharp observation and analytical thinking
- Creativity in designing practical, meaningful therapy tasks
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Patience, empathy, and a collaborative spirit
- Knowledge of therapeutic tools, techniques, and adaptive equipment
- Good documentation habits and goal-tracking skills
