Job responsibilities

Position Purpose / Summary

To assist Head of Equities in daily management, administration and implementation of research tasks and plans. To assist HOD in functions and tasks related to fund management; and to ensure that items 1 and 2 above are in compliance with relevant procedures, policies and regulations.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Fund Management 

• In-charge of a number of clients' investment portfolios in terms of fund management activities with some supervision and guidance from the Head of Equities.
• To ensure that fund management or investment activities of the portfolios do not breach any of the respective client's mandate(s) or parameter(s).
• To ensure that fund management or investment activities of the portfolios adhere to ARIM's new Equity Investment Policy & Guidelines and also do not breach with any rules and laws in the Capital Market Services Act 2007 and its subsequent amendments or any other rules and laws.
• To continuously develop, implement and monitor appropriate and clear investment strategies for the portfolios.
• To achieve the targeted returns or performance as set by the clients.
• To achieve superior performance relative to the respective benchmarks of the portfolios as well as relative to ARIM's competitors.
• To regularly provide investment or stock ideas to the Head of Equities and fellow fund managers within the Company.
• Responsible in monitoring and take actions on all corporate exercise, such as rights or bonus issues, on all the counters in the portfolios.

Dealing 

• Besides responsible for dealing in securities for those portfolios already assigned, to assist Head of Equities (if necessary) in executing trades of securities.
• To execute trades diligently and strive to achieve good prices or satisfactory quantity on all trades filled.
• To enter trades done correctly and in timely manner into ARIM's portfolio management system; i.e. Ozasia.
• To ensure that the portfolios' records in the portfolios management system are correct and updated.
• Responsible in ensuring all trade chits are duly filled, stamped, approved and filed.

Research 

• In charge of research analysis work for a few sectors.
• To conduct or attend a minimum of 20 company visits and analyst briefings within a calendar year.
• To write at least 6 research reports on companies within a calendar year.
• Responsible in producing other research reports in timely manner as per instructed by the CIO or any other superior. Also responsible in reviewing (to ensure meeting a satisfactory standard) a report written by a junior member of the equity team.
• Responsible in updating and rebalancing of the Model Portfolio (subject to changes from time to time).
• To assume a "mentor" role for an analyst specified by the CIO and FM. Responsible in career and competency development and progress of this analyst.

Marketing & Investment Services

• Required to attend and present investment related issues to existing and potential clients whenever necessary.
• To assist the CIO or any other superior in preparation of investment proposals to clients.
• Responsible to assist CIO or any other superior, whenever necessary in product developments for the company.

Special Functions / Projects 

• Responsible in assisting the Head of Equities and any other superior in monitoring / reporting of the overall KWB Fund.
• To maintain cordial business relationships with ARIM's panel of brokers and their representatives. Must also show utmost professionalism in dealing with the brokers and their representatives.
• Must demonstrate "team-player" spirit at work.
• Not allowed to divulge state of client's financial positions, portfolio's fund size / performance, ARIM's investment strategies and stock holdings to third party.

Miscellaneous 

• A fund manager's benchmark is not only based on the performance of the portfolios he/she is managing but must be balanced with all of the above.
• Poor discipline, work ethics and professionalism may not only negatively affect chances of promotion, bonus and increment, but also may result in demotion, supervision and dismissal.
• To duly complete any other work task as per instructed by the company or any superior.

Qualifications

1.    Bachelor Degree majoring in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Investment or equivalent.

2.    Preferably with MBA or CFA

3.    Minimum 7-10 years' investment related experience.
