Head of Core Banking Strategy

A prominent regional bank is seeking an experienced and visionary Head of Core Banking Strategy and Transformation to lead the modernization and future-proofing of our core banking platforms. This critical role will define the strategic roadmap, drive execution of major transformation initiatives, and ensure our core systems support the bank's growth and digital ambitions across the region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and articulate a compelling Core Banking strategy aligned with the bank's overall business objectives, including digital transformation, customer experience, and regulatory compliance.
  • Create a multi-year roadmap for the modernization, replacement, or overhaul of core banking systems.
  • Serve as the executive sponsor and leader for complex, cross-functional core banking transformation programs. This includes managing stakeholders, overseeing program governance, and ensuring timely, on-budget delivery of expected business outcomes.
  • Define the target state operating model and business architecture for the bank's core functions (e.g., deposits, lending, payments), leveraging modern core banking solutions, APIs, and cloud technologies.
  • Lead the evaluation, selection, and negotiation of strategic partnerships with core banking software vendors (e.g., Temenos, Finastra, Mambu) and system integrators.
  • Stay abreast of FinTech innovations and emerging core banking trends.
  • Develop and manage the financial business case for core transformation, including cost estimation, ROI analysis, and benefit realization tracking.
  • Ensure all core banking changes adhere to regional regulatory requirements, internal risk frameworks, and data governance policies.
  • Collaborate effectively with Executive Leadership, Retail Banking, Commercial Banking, Operations, IT, Finance, and Risk teams to secure buy-in and alignment for the transformation agenda.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Extensive years of experience in a leadership role within a bank or top-tier consulting firm, focusing on Core Banking modernization or large-scale technology transformation.
  • Deep functional and technical knowledge of core banking platforms (account opening, loan origination, general ledger, deposits, payments, etc.) and the associated vendor landscape.
  • Proven track record of successfully defining and executing a Core Banking replacement or major upgrade program in a regional or global financial institution.
  • Strong understanding of modern banking technologies, including cloud computing, microservices architecture, APIs, and data migration strategies.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical and business concepts to executive audiences.
  • Experience operating within the regional regulatory landscape (e.g., ASEAN, GCC, or relevant region).
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business, Technology, Finance, or a related field
