The Mechanical Engineer reports to the Construction Manager/MEP Manager.The Mechanical Engineer leads the project field team and oversees the field construction from initialization, planning, execution, monitoring & control, and closing stages for each phase and overall completion of Mechanical systems. He/She must ensure that work is completed and commissioned within scope, budget, and to the quality specified.

Responsibilities includes but not limited to the following:

  • Responsible for ensuring contractors' strict adherence to contracted safety, schedule delivery, quality of work standards, performance, and adherence to budget of project.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with engineers, design consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, inspectors, and owner's representatives to ensure alignment with client goals and expectations from initiation to completion of the project
  • Oversee daily activities of subordinates, General Contractor and Subcontractor.
  • Communicate with owners, architects, engineers, and contractors regarding field issues. Investigate and resolve issues.
  • Ensure all company, client, and project policies, procedures, and standards are adhered to and interpret policies as needed.
  • Manage procurement, project budgets, quality, safety, engineering, coordination, scheduling, installation, commissioning, and close-out processes for mechanical systems.
  • Lead the overall turnover process including start-up, testing, commissioning, and closeout.
  • Liaise and communicate with the Client representative on any Mechanical related items.
  • Assist with the MEP clash coordination and BIM efforts.
  • Identify any potential risks related to Mechanical works, material delivery, installation methods, etc.
  • Provide guidance and leadership on Mechanical related matters such as industry best practices, alternative solutions, etc.
  • Assist with implementation and interpretation of safety programs.
  • Work with Project Scheduler to develop and implement overall project work schedules, identify critical path including expedition of scheduled critical materials and equipment for timely delivery to site.
  • Work with PMCS Manager, Project Manager and Commercial Manager to develop engineering procedures, including document control, submissions management, creation and tracking of Requests for Information (RFIs), material samples, documentation and tracking of potential cost changes, and approved change orders within budgetary requirements.
  • Always ensure strict adherence to ethics and compliance requirements.
  • Document and respond to all project field issues impacting budget, quality, or schedule.
  • Manage contractor's and consultants' implementation of project-specific Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) Plan in coordination with project team, owner and/or architect team, and contract documents.
  • Review testing and inspections and participate with third-party testers to witness testing and inspections, analyze and review report results.
  • Implement and organize mock-ups inspection and associated testing, reviews, and approvals.
  • Ensure and advise client on all necessary permits and insurances, and ensure documents are kept current for project team.
  • Manage work to ensure it is installed in compliance with and comply with approved contract documents.
  • Oversee development of punch lists, corrective, and remedial work.
  • Oversee project close-out and quality reports.
  • Any other ad-hoc responsibilities assigned by the Project Manager are needed to support the operation.

Requirements:

  • Min. 8 years of experience with progressively more responsible exposure to design, cost, sequence, logistics and field installations of Mechanical systems or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree/Post Graduate Diploma/Professional Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to present technical material.
  • Strong computer skills and a familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite of programs.
  • Knowledge of project management and scheduling software desirable.
  • Technical expertise and understanding of all mechanical systems that support the broad array of project types in our portfolio and how they interrelate with each other.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, BIM, and other construction-related software.
  • Familiar with the Malaysian Standards (MS), Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST), British Standards (BS), IEEE guidelines, NFPA, IEC, local/international code and standards.
  • Experience working with data centers and critical facilities, and understanding its requirement, systems, and processes in the factor is an added advantage.
