Overview:
Drive Hong Leong Islamic Bank's (HLISB) Value-Based Intermediation (VBI) agenda by embedding sustainability, financial inclusion, and social finance principles across the Bank's businesses and operations. The role supports the Bank's aspiration to be the most purpose-driven, best-run Islamic bank—delivering balanced outcomes for customers, shareholders, society, and the environment through Shariah-compliant and impact-driven solutions. Play a central role in operationalizing HLISB's VBI Roadmap 2026, aligning initiatives with BNM's VBI Scorecard, iTEKAD, i-CITA fund, Cash Waqf programmes, and the Bank's Sustainability Commitments, while positioning HLISB as a thought leader in Islamic sustainability and inclusive finance. These will include:- Reflect VBI-related aspiration in the institution's mission statement. The successful candidate will report to the CEO of Hong Leong Islamic Bank.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and strategize specific roadmap (or 3 – 5 years strategic plan) on VBI;
- Clarify roles & responsibilities (including specific KPIs) of PICs in VBI-related initiatives & reporting line – including roles of Shariah Committee & other functions under Shariah Governance;
- Strategize communication to enhance visibility on institution's effort in VBI-related initiatives (branding);
- Shape the right behaviour through positive culture-shift and improvement in overall banking operations;
- Translate HLISB's VBI and sustainability vision into actionable strategies and key performance indicators (KPIs) across all divisions.
- Lead the implementation of HLISB's VBI Roadmap and Impact Measurement Framework, ensuring alignment with BNM's VBI guidance and the MIFC "Islah" position paper.
- Lead the design and execution of social finance initiatives including iTEKAD, Cash Waqf, Zakat-linked financing, and blended finance collaborations.
- Strengthen partnerships with NGOs, foundations, state religious councils, and government agencies to deliver inclusive financial solutions for B40, micro-SME, and underserved segments.
- Support the development and monitoring of the Bank's Sustainability Framework and Disclosure Report in compliance with BNM and Bursa Malaysia requirements.
- Work with Risk, Credit, and Compliance to embed ESG and climate risk assessment tools (e.g., CCPT, TCFD) within business processes.
- Represent HLISB in industry platforms (AIBIM, MIFC Business Network, BNM Working Groups) related to VBI, ESG, and sustainability.
Skills & Experience We Are Looking For:
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Economics, Sustainability, Shariah, or related field. Master's preferred.
- Minimum 7 years' experience in Islamic banking, sustainability, ESG, or VBI-related functions.
- Strong understanding of BNM's VBI framework, ESG standards (TCFD, CCPT, TNFD), and Maqasid al-Shariah principles.
- Proven track record in leading sustainability or social finance projects with measurable impact.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, and project management skills.
