Position Overview

The Audio-Visual (AV) Technician is responsible for the setup, operation, maintenance, and technical integrity of all onboard audio, lighting, video, and broadcast systems across entertainment and public venues. This role supports the full spectrum of shipboard entertainment — including live bands, DJs, theatrical performances, KTV lounges, and digital signage — ensuring every production and guest experience meets professional entertainment standards.

Key Responsibilities


• Operate, monitor, and maintain all audio, lighting, video, and control systems across theatres, lounges,

and public areas.


• Provide technical support and live show operation for bands, DJs, themed events, and crew programs.


• Manage sound checks, stage setups, and equipment strikes for scheduled performances.


• Program and operate intelligent lighting systems including moving heads, LED fixtures, pixel mapping,

strobes, and lasers, synchronized with show cues and music timecode.


• Design and execute lighting looks and effects suited to live and club environments.


• Operate and maintain PA, KTV, digital signage, and background music systems throughout the vessel.


• Support video playback, projection, live camera feeds, and streaming for onboard events.


• Diagnose and repair mixers, amplifiers, DSPs, projectors, LED walls, lighting consoles, and cabling

systems.


• Maintain inventory, maintenance records, and preventive maintenance logs for all AV and lighting assets.


• Work closely with Entertainment, IT, and Engineering teams on system integration, maintenance, and

upgrades.


• Ensure compliance with marine electrical, fire safety, and operational standards.


• Support emergency broadcast and communication systems when required.

Qualifications & Experience


• Diploma or Certificate in Audio Engineering, Lighting Technology, or AV Production (or equivalent hands-

on experience).


• 1–3 years' experience in live sound, lighting, or show control operations (prior experience with marine or

hospitality-based cruise ship AV operations, or nightlife and live entertainment environments, is highly

preferred).


• Proficient in:

  • Digital/analog mixers, DSP processors, amplifiers, and PA systems

  • Lighting control systems (DMX, Art-Net, GrandMA, Avolites, Chamsys, etc.)

  • Video switchers, LED processors, projectors, and networked AV systems


• Knowledge of broadcast, CCTV, and media control systems.


• Possession of STCW Basic Safety Training or equivalent marine certification.


• Familiar with brands such as Yamaha, Allen & Heath, Pioneer DJ, Shure, JBL, QSC, Kramer, BrightSign etc.


• Skilled in lighting programming and cue execution for live shows, club nights, and special events.


• Strong technical troubleshooting, teamwork, and communication abilities.


• Comfortable working at sea for extended durations and in confined or dynamic environments.

Physical & Work Requirements


• Ability to lift and transport equipment (up to 25–30 kg).


• Comfortable working in heat, humidity, and vibration typical of marine settings.


• Willingness to work nights, weekends, and irregular hours as per work schedules.
