The Science (Chemistry) Editor is responsible for planning, editing, and developing high-quality educational materials for primary and/or secondary school levels. This includes textbooks, workbooks, teacher's guides, and digital resources aligned with the latest school curriculum (KSSR / KSSM). The role requires strong subject knowledge in Chemistry, attention to detail, and collaboration with writers, designers, and other editors to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency across publications.

Key responsibilities

  • Coordinate and liaise closely with authors on all matters related to book publishing.
  • Review and edit manuscripts for Science (Chemistry) subjects to ensure content accuracy and adherence to curriculum standards.
  • Check and verify scientific facts, terminology, and experiment procedures.
  • Collaborate with design team on illustrations, typesetting/layout, and proofreading corrections.
  • Ensure timely completion and delivery of all assigned publishing projects.
  • Engage and liaise with teachers to obtain the most current data and information.
  • Keep up to date with changes in MOE curriculum, syllabus, and examination formats.
  • Participate in content development meetings and provide constructive editorial feedback.

Job Requirements

  • Candidate must possess degree or equivalent in Chemistry, etc.
  • 3-5 years working experience in the publishing industry. Editors with experience in handling primary/secondary textbooks are highly encouraged to apply
  • Familiarity with the Malaysian education system, curriculum syllabus and examination formats (primary & secondary)
  • Good contacts with practicing teachers & others related to this field
  • Good command of the Bahasa Malaysia and English language (spoken & written)
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a keen eye for identifying and correcting language-related errors
  • Able to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Computer literate – familiar with MS Word, MS Excel, AI tools, etc.
