As a Lead Data Engineer based in Kuala Lumpur, you will be at the forefront of shaping modern cloud-native data platforms for clients throughout Southeast Asia and APAC. You will take ownership of end-to-end delivery-from initial architecture through implementation-ensuring that every solution is optimised for performance and reliability. • Design and deliver enterprise-grade data pipelines leveraging Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Databricks, and Microsoft Fabric to meet diverse client needs.
• Architect and implement scalable ETL/ELT frameworks, efficient ingestion patterns, and curated data models that support business objectives.
• Optimise cloud-based data environments for enhanced performance, reliability, scalability, and cost-efficiency while maintaining best practices.
• Translate complex business requirements into production-ready engineered solutions that drive value for clients.
• Advise stakeholders on industry-leading approaches to data architecture, governance, lineage tracking, quality assurance, and DevOps/DataOps integration.
• Mentor engineering teams by sharing knowledge and guiding them towards consistent delivery excellence within project timelines.
• Contribute actively to solution architecture design, technical roadmaps development, and comprehensive project planning activities.
• Lead or support pre-sales engagements such as scoping sessions, interactive workshops, and proof-of-concept builds to demonstrate capability.
• Collaborate effectively with colleagues across different cultures and time zones to ensure aligned outcomes and high-quality project delivery.

• 6-8+ years of experience in data engineering or cloud-based data delivery roles demonstrating deep technical proficiency.
• Advanced hands-on expertise with Azure Data Services including Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, Data Lake Storage, and Purview for comprehensive data management.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Fabric components such as OneLake storage solutions, Data Pipelines orchestration tools, Dataflows automation processes, and Notebooks for advanced analytics.
• Excellent SQL skills coupled with proven experience in data modelling techniques and performance optimisation strategies for large-scale datasets.
• Familiarity with modern data stack tools including dbt (data build tool), Databricks unified analytics platform, Delta Lake storage layer enhancements, and Power BI visualisation capabilities.
• Solid understanding of data governance principles encompassing metadata management practices, lineage tracking mechanisms, quality control standards, as well as DataOps/DevOps methodologies.
• Demonstrated consulting experience with confidence engaging directly with clients and stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver impactful solutions.
• Exceptional communication skills enabling you to simplify complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences while fostering trust-based relationships.
• Based in Malaysia with flexibility to collaborate seamlessly across multiple APAC locations as part of distributed project teams.
