Job Summary

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Junior MS-SQL Database Administrator to join an international infrastructure team based in Kuala Lumpur. The role primarily involves supporting MS-SQL databases hosted on Google Cloud, Azure Cloud, and on-premise environments. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical foundation in database administration, performance tuning, monitoring, and SQL programming, with an eagerness to learn and grow within a collaborative team environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide database administration support for MS-SQL databases across cloud (Google/Azure) and on-premise environments.
  • Perform database maintenance, housekeeping, and troubleshooting to ensure system reliability and stability.
  • Identify and resolve database performance issues, including query optimization, indexing, and configuration tuning.
  • Manage incident, problem, and change requests related to database operations in collaboration with other IT teams.
  • Support capacity planning, system performance analysis, and resource utilization monitoring.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for database configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
  • Handle database installations, upgrades, patching, and lifecycle management.
  • Implement and manage backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies to ensure data protection.
  • Write and optimize SQL/PLSQL scripts and batch processes.
  • Provide technical support to application developers on data flow, reliability, and standards.
  • Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation for critical incident response.
  • Implement and maintain high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions for MS-SQL.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection and security regulations.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in MS-SQL database administration.
  • Proven experience with Google Cloud or Azure Cloud database environments.
  • Proficiency in MS-SQL administration, including backup/recovery, monitoring, and patch management.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Experience in performance tuning, index optimization, and query analysis.
  • Familiarity with MS-SQL high availability solutions.
  • Knowledge of database security, key rotation, and encryption practices.
  • Proficient in SQL scripting and batch programming.
  • Experience raising and managing support requests with vendors.

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of other database technologies such as PostgreSQL or Oracle.
  • Experience with IT security, software development methodologies, or quality assurance processes.
  • Interest in new technologies and self-motivated learning.
  • Familiarity with Cloud PaaS subscriptions and data transfer/extraction tools.
