Technology Scout

POSITION PURPOSE

The mission of the Global Technology Innovation team is to identify and scale-up advanced technologies into commercializable innovations to realize Baltimore Aircoil Company's (BAC) vision to reinvent cooling to sustain the world. Headquartered in Jessup, MD, the Global Technology Innovation team is a fast-paced, high-energy innovation driver for sustainable industrial and commercial heat rejection, thermal energy storage, thermal management, and carbon capture technologies. We are looking for a curious, humble, and resilient Technology Scout in the Asia-Pacific region to play a critical role in helping our team source, develop and scale technologies that will create lasting sustainable value.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

· Develop and grow BAC's presence and network within key innovation ecosystems in the Asia-Pacific region

· Source emerging technologies, both through external scouting and within the BAC organization

· Lead or support execution of technology assessments, as needed in collaboration with internal subject matter experts, in alignment with current and future market and technology challenges

· Stay up to date and report-out on emerging technologies and technology trends in areas relevant to BAC

· Support due diligence efforts related to technology acquisitions

· Provide technology scouting expertise to the BAC organization and participate in cross-functional innovation activities as needed

· Drive continuous improvement of the Technology Scouting processes and help implement effective ways to maintain a fast-paced, high-energy, innovative environment and culture

NATURE AND SCOPE

The Technology Scouting will report to the Global Director, Technology Innovation, and will work closely with the Global Lead, Technology Scouting. As a member of the Global Product and Technology Innovation department, the Technology Scout - APAC will have frequent interaction with the Core Technology, Support Systems, Advanced Manufacturing Technology, New Product Introduction, and Global and Regional Marketing groups within BAC, and external technology partners outside of BAC. The position will have no direct reports.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

Education and Experience:

· Bachelor's degree in engineering required; Master's degree in Engineering or Business preferred

· Five or more years of applicable experience in high-performance science or engineering-driven environments leading technology discovery and evaluation activities, and/or leading early-stage technology research and development projects

· Proven track record of successfully building relationships with technology developers, startup incubators/accelerators, VCs, and other key players in major Asia-Pacific and/or global innovation ecosystems

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

· Ability to perform technical analyses of technologies, and apply technology principles, theories, and concepts across many engineering and scientific fields relevant to BAC

· Ability to map technologies against established targets for performance, cost, total addressable market, and other figures of merit

· Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills; ability to analyze, synthesize, and present results to both technical and non-technical audiences; ability to communicate effectively in diverse, multicultural environments

· Proactive and diligent in identifying and communicating scope, opportunities, and risks, for proposed initiatives

· Highly motivated and self-driven, with ability to establish priorities, work independently, and execute objectives without supervision

· Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to take informal leadership roles and excellent follow-through skills

· Enthusiastic team player: willing to participate in a team-oriented environment and to collaborate with team members

· Willingness to travel frequently

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

· Existing scouting network

· Experience in startup incubator/accelerator/technology transfer programs, venture capital, and/or consulting

· Demonstrated project management experience required, including managing multiple projects in parallel; practical experience with agile, lean, and/or design-thinking frameworks preferred

· Speak and read Mandarin
